Hey there,

I don't know how many of you know AGK already but actually it's a real nice package. If you know BB3D you will feel home instantly, plus it's cross platform. Can be used with C++ as well by the way.

Out of curiosity, who of you have used AGK already?

I bought the first version and found the IDE somewhat lacking, but then instead of writing an IDE from scratch they just poached Codeblocks with a Windows build only and no source code release. If I remember it was clumsy to use, which is possibly why they decided to bring out AGKv2.

AGK2 is a lot better than AGK1 :) The IDE is pretty decent.

One of the best features of AGK2 is the AGK Player which you install on your mobile devices and then from the IDE you just click Broadcast. Within a few seconds your game is then running on your phone. No need to compile and faff about with certificates everytime you want to try it out on your phone.

Of course when your game is ready to ship you still need to go through the usual rigamarole but for testing in dev stage it's a super neat feature.

Until the next time.

Here here,

since V2 I use it regulary and love its API and also the Geany based IDE. At first I was missing Monkeys language a lot, but then got used to code oldschool. Actually i am more creative with it. Maybe it is because you don't over engineer your code.

Here is a screenshot from my game I am slowly working on:

It'd be nice if they supported basic shadow mapping though..

The AGK 2017 roadmap has shadows listed in the 3D section :

•   3D Shadows: Automatic 3D shadow effects will be added to the 3D engine.
•   3D Particles: With this addition particles can be 3D in shape and move in three dimensions.

EDIT - Great looking screenshot  MikeHart :)

Of course, shadows can be applied via sharers already but a build in solution will be better.

Thanks GW.

Thanks Edzup. That is all standard AGK written in Tier1 without any plugins so far.

How much is AGK2 if it's not to expensive and cross platform I might have a look

MikeHart

They have several packages and offers. On their site and on Steam. The cheapest I found was for AGK alone and for 37 Euro atm.

But have a look at the offers. The are not bad.

EdzUp

Ah thought that was AGK1 lol

there doesn't seem to be a mention of the second version.

Will have a look :)

MikeHart

They just call it AGK now. Removed the 2 recently. But that has confused quite some people. :D

EdzUp

I bet especially as the site doesn't seem to have changed from when it was AGK1
