Android Variant:

Got GPS data capture working on an APK on my phone !!!!!  :o   Not really good news for the Windows variant of my entry, excited about what can be achieved within AGK on the Android platform.

40 days seems like an exceedingly short timeline now though.......

I'd subtly remind you that, as a default, there must be at least a Windows build, if no other platforms.

Cheers Xerra, Who knows what'll get submitted - I've got the beginnings of a Windows build - and as for the Android variant, yeah chances are slim to say the least. I've always fancied hanging together an Android app with Dynamic GPS blah. Actually making a 'game' of it will be a push though...........

Speaking as a fellow gamemaker, let me give you some advice here, old bean. Make a game. Stop getting distracted by the wonders of mobile technology, or the wonders of a different dev system, or even the realities of life, unless you have to. Make your game. Make it a windows game. Make it work and make it play well, and don't make it so expansive that you can't possibly do it with the time you have available to do so.

Just make the game, and make it good, and then put it out there for the competition within the time limit and just on the PC. Once it's done and the competition is over then you can do what the hell you want with it. Put it on Android, sell it for strippers, delete it in frustration, or just howl at the moon for the frustration it took to get it out there.

But make the game and don't get distracted. Just make it.

I hear you Xerra, mad thing is - the only thing that spurns me back to the keyboard is these gaming competitions.... Crazy thing is when I get here I'm gobsmacked about what can be achieved these days.  And the pain I had getting Monkey to compile and Transfer to Mobile, put me right off.... AGK makes it a breeze!

Still, I digress. I do hear you, and will have a submission for the Compo, in Windows :)  Got this other CISSP thing to look at, might compromise the quality of my entry slighty (I know, I know, (EDIT - my entries...) they're all usually so high :) )

@Qube - Compo 15 already - where have the years gone  :o

Good luck with you 'entre' pal.

Does AGK do 3D on Android as well as their 2D ?   After the competition is over I would like to entertain the idea of re-writing my game submission to an Android device,  I just haven't found an engine I'm comfortable with that does 3D on Android.  I'm no fan of Unity3D, I actually like to get my hands dirty and code stuff lol.

I'll try and confirm for you tomorrow.... Errr, later today already. We do code..... Mostly at night.

@Alienhead, just confirmed AGK runs 3D 'apps' on Android devices with no headaches, if your 3d app is compiled in Windows, it'll export to Android natively.

I'm gobsmacked I was able to:

1. Broadcast the running executable to my mobile phone.
2. Export and APK no bother, install a 3D renderer and run natively on my phone.

Even moved a couple of buttons up as they were struggling to be podged at the bottom of my phones screen. Happy Days.

Hope this helps.

Might be having a major re-think on my approach to this competition...... theres whole weeks left after all.

Wow! That's really awesome, I was a Darkbasic user back when beta first ended and really Darkbasic taught me all about 3D coding, it's what got me started in the field to be honest.  I haven't been back that way in many many years but I can promise ya, I'll be checking out AGK solely for Android and Web compiles as soon as the compo game is completed..

Thanks for the update!

Well, level 1 done. Level 2 kinda done, but the logic between 1 & 2 needs un-knitting. Level 3 started and bugs with the game framework being squished one by one. Days Left to deadline 30 plus ish.   :o

Improved debug to allow mapping of up to 11 levels - chance will be a fine thing!  :))

my coding standards aren't what they once were....  Select command is working a treat and the framework to develop further levels should lead to less head scratching.
