Unlike Geany, Kate has no problems following the screen scaling setting on my computer. Kate is also a free and open-source application like Geany.

Here is the syntax highlighting file for FreeBASIC:

I think we could adapt it to highlight SmallBASIC code like what you did on Geany. Too bad, I'm still very new to the language and thus unqualified to do such a job.
