AppGameKit ( AGK ) / Re: AGK as a first language
Last post by Pfaber11 - May 15, 2024, 12:57:48
You know compared to the basics of now I regard zx81 basic to be quite hard. It was a different beast back then and I knew very little. Back to modern times and now Basic can cut it with the best of them. AGK with a bit of practice can run quite fast on an average PC. I'm about to release my latest offering onto the web but I doubt many will download it but who knows it might go viral.

Not sure where you heard that. Unless you are thinking of when he was living in a Dutch commune...
He may still be working for Elite Systems.

BlitzMax / BlitzMax NG / NG: Chipmunk 2D v1.07 module
Last post by Hotcakes - May 15, 2024, 10:04:02
After a couple months of work, I have updated Bruceys Chipmunk module to support Chipmunk 7 (probably requires Blitzmax NG).  Well, it took about three weeks to get it up to a level that a game could make use of it and the rest of the time was spent porting the official demos over.  As a result, this is a near complete implementation.

There's more that can be added and fixed, but I consider this to be a feature complete (albeit beta) release.
There are minor differences between the official docs and this module - the biggest changes are owing to wanting to keep maximum compatibility with the previous v1.05 module and any code that was based off of it.  Previous code should only require a single command change.

I'd be interested to know how this effort compares to other physics modules, if anyone has any experience with them.

The story goes that Mathew Smith wrote and tested the core of Manic Miner on a TRS-80 Model 4 and the ZX Spectrum specific routines were written blind. He managed to get access to Sinclair's cross development system for a weekend to compile, debug and save the final result.

So did Bobby Fischer (in chess). Another genius. I'm not sure Matthew has lost his mind just yet though. Certainly quirky and got burnt out.
