May I ask people to test the framerate of this web page/browser game?

Hello again,

May I ask if some people could test the following web page/browser game on mobile/tablet devices and report to me the fps value displayed on screen for most of the time:

Test as follows:

Load up page: (it should take no longer than 1 minute to load fully on slow connections)
https://mattiesgames.com/spacewar/index3.php

Press the "Play" option.

Choose the option marked "Large Engagement 3" on the right hand side of the screen.

During the battle the fps should be displayed at top left along with some debugging information. Hopefully it remains at about 62fps the whole time.

Can you tell me the following:

1. Was it consistently above 60fps?

2. Is your device a phone or tablet?

3. The year of purchase of your device? I'm imagining that if it's after 2018 it should run reasonably well.

Thanks,
Matt

The ipad pro from 2022 runs it at a solid 58 fps.
The regular ipad from 2020 also does a solid 58fps.
The regular ipad from 2017 also did a solid 58 fps. Might off twitched a bit, but I was not able to see a different fps.

The game does stop the ipad from playing music, but the game does not have any sound or music. I have this with more browser games. (Webkit)

Thanks Pakz. Good to know. I didn't know how it would go on an Apple device.

I had a fair idea the music and audio wouldn't play on an Apple though as mp3 in browser I think generally doesn't always play properly - or at least it never used to on Apple.  Some of the different devices play only certain codecs.

I think you might also need ogg or even wav. But things like the browser Amiga emulator never had sound iirc.

I had to restart the browser on the Ipad pro after testing your game. It would not play any sound on any site. Probably a apple bug.

My own html5 3d project is a lot more heavy on the cpu. A voxel game. I spent a long time reading on future and current mobile devices yesterday. 3nm for android is out tomorrow in china. Next month elsewhere. Those new Qualcomm Snapdragons cpu's/igpu's are great for mobile gaming. I might even look to get a galaxy s23 next year for Android gaming.

Yeah I saw your browser game - looked pretty impressive for a mobile/tablet device.

My game isn't truly 3d - it's all 2d but made to look 3d.

eg: prerendered spaceships in different angles.

Pakz

Ah. That is why the ipad 2017 did well :) That old device was very fast when I first got it back then. I stil use it every now and then.

Oh....if anyone is interested....because the game is in Javascript all the code is easily accessible from the web browser - if you want to see the 3d code (fake 3d) then you can do so in this source file:
