Potentially a rough idea of how the title screen might look. I want an old school tavern kind of look so thinking wood panels with carved logos and stuff like that. Placeholder more than anything at the moment and I've reduced the image size to stop qubes forum telling me off.

The second shot is a layout I'll be using for testing the game mechanisms before I start thinking about how to lay out the different taverns for each day of the week. As you can see, I've worked really hard on the graphics here so I can get this stuff working. My sprites are so good that I think I might keep them instead of hassling someone else to do some graphics for me :-)

I know you guys are really impressed, right? Of course you are.

Yep, that's appropriate for the game.  Why don't you use the wood panelling on the menu screen for the benches in-game?  And use another colour than grey.

Still thinking about all of it actually, because tapper had a bit of variety with the different bar themes, such as punk bar,  sports bar, western bar, space bar etc. Also had different customers in each one as well so that's a lot of graphics needed. What I have there is nothing but a pee-take because it's just putting some quick scribbled images down so I've got a way to prototype the gameplay elements. Not made any kind of real thinking on all the graphics I'll need and where to go for them because I want to make sure that I get the gameplay working right first, else I'd be wasting a lot of time.

I've watched so many videos, and played quite a few other versions of the original game now, and I'm still not done with the whole design yet. I think it'll be easy to do it as a one-button game but until I get it properly up and running I'm not completely sure.

Pissing about with ds_grids last night trying to plan ahead on bar layouts on different screens meaning Barney the barman doesn't always just jump down a few squares when he's moved. Sometimes bars could be jutting out from the other side of the screen so he moves across the screen, faces the other way and throws beers in the other direction. The scene I used for prototyping only has four simple bars all coming from the same side but I thought I'd plan ahead and work this properly so adding in new screens will be easy. Especially because some screens might have more than just four bars on them.

So I had about 3-4 hours work, juggling from an array to an eventual grid, thinking how I can get the data stored correctly so it's easy to access with an accessor when I was using an enum system to reference the numbers. Needless to say it didn't work so I just drank a few beers instead.

I am taking this seriously, honest :) I'll be back on it Monday evening after I'm back from a bank holiday boozing weekend :-)

Canning this one. Friend suggested that the game might not suit a one-button gameplay and now I've got it to a basic prototype I think he's right.

Still got 40 days to come up with something else that will work better with the control system.

fair enough. There's no shortage of idea's be it simple or complex.
I prototyped 5, scrapped 3, technically completed 2,working on 1

I've got something else in mind now that I've almost got running in a very basic form. Very minimalist - so I dont have to stress on graphics too much, but also going to be pretty tough. Hoping this will work out much better.

lots of work to do, ho hum..
