Auto moving right and pressing button to move left, I reckon. Or vice-versa. Kinda flappy bird sideways but without the gravity effect.

it's all about the tool chain my dear ;)

- wide2 means I can view and jump around the code as I want
- rameses for designing all the low poly 3d
- miniRa and vector2d for the vector display
- fontmap for the mapping
- qasarbeach for the sound
- syntaxbomb for the encouragement, advice and bloody mindedness \o/

Looks a bit frantic for a one button game.  :o

Can I make a suggestion. Don't move the camera every time you change direction, only do it when you're going in that direction for a sustained period.

just lerp/interpolate your camera into the target position ... that way "rapid changes" would never reach the maximum (left or right). it would shake "less". But if you stay almost right or left, camera will reach there too.

cameraPos = cameraPos.interpolate(targetPos, delta * camAdjustmentSpeed)


edit: as Adam often gets finished with gameplay early we might convince him of using the rest of the time to polish "accessibility" (ingame instructions), good "first game" startup options (ask to go fullscreen or stay windows), OS compatibility (so no rush as he finds out that his game does not compile on Windows - 2 days before compo deadline, or sound issues) ... all these little issues we spotted in his last games. Some only happened in rare situations (random key presses during screen transitions - or hammering ESC key which reinited scenes ... such stuff). It helps us (to enjoy the game better) and will lead to more downloads for his games on itch (and better ratings there too).


@ Adam
Maybe one could upgrade the ship during the races (1st place = $1000, 2nd = 500 ...).
First button hit: moves through list of "type of upgrade"
Second button hit: moves through list of "option"
Double button hit: "buys"

That way you can:
- change colour of the ship ?
- select another ship (slow accel, swammy steering, better shield...)
- improve gear / bigger tanks for the fuel ...

Actually, not a bad idea, Adam. Remember how many times you've been peed off with me throwing you a list of stuff I've found that should have been sent to you in bug-fix week?

Get a couple of people to give your game a test run. Not sure whether you're allowed to let someone else play it who's also entering, however?!?!? Or potential voters....
