Matty, I'm sure you can use higher polygon models on today's hardware. Looking good otherwise.

That's probably true Steve, but I don't think higher poly models will work on my own hardware! I'm using a device that is over 11 years old and wasn't top of the line when I bought it in 2014.

I will say something about YouTube however...the algorithm seems to like to poke me and prod me with showing me other indie games that are 10x or 100x better looking than mine whenever I post something I feel proud of myself about....

Re: multiplayer...

If I had a second PC and someone to play the game with, I'd work on adding cooperative multiplayer where two players can control the defenders together against the invading enemy. I have the code to do it from one of my other multiplayer real time games and so I know how to do it, I just haven't got the hardware to do proper testing of it. Very difficult to program and test a multiplayer game properly when you've only got one device to do it on.

I redid the shaders in the space battle as well....I've been neglecting the space combat component and focusing on the ground combat for a while.
