Crud I decided to change the game that was currently in development to this one.
Extreme pro tray surfer is a ps1 throwback to the tony hawk games 'aesthetically' at least.
It's a 3 phase action game.
[phase 1] button mash to charge run speed and slide meter
[phase 2] timed button unpress before jumping to land on the tray.
[phase 3] hold or release the action button to maintain balance or steer/lean.
Scoring so far is based on distance, but I still need to add some kind of additional skill element.

on ward on up ward  :)

Finally got the menu's sorted  :D
They all use one button which worked surprisingly well. The cursor shifts between the options and when the [action key] is
hit, will select that option. I've also added a short input timer to prevent miss hits ... hopefully.
If no option is highlighted and the [action key] is hit then option reverts back to the previous menu or screen.
Everything is going accordingly with no issues, let hope it stays that way.

Looks great.

So the menu options cycle and you just hit the button to select? Not sure I get the previous menu part. Why not just have a back button on the menu? Also, for accessibility add a delay to the cycle if an option is selected/changed for a field. Did this for Micro Sprint and worked pretty well.

Looks great but I don't get why you want a one-button system for the menu as well. The contest rules say that only gameplay needs to work from the one-button restriction. Menu's and configuration stuff can all work as normal.

Yep that's right, I just wanted to go all in on one button.
Extra bonus points for using only one button for everything maybe?  ;D

On the home stretch now.

All 6 areas, 3 comp areas and a practice area are done and dusted.
5 base tray surfers done.
2 hidden tray surfers and 6 unlockable cheats done.

Finally added tricking, done by hitting the action button after a kicker ramp launch and after jumping from a table slide.
The trick's are also random.

just doing a few more final touch up's and test's and we are good to go.  :)

OMG! That's me! :-)

Good work, Mr M. Let's have a video of fat-boy-me doing a ramp jump somersault and grinding a half-pipe :)

You should put all the syntax bomb regulars in there as you imagine they look as playable characters. That would be brilliant.

It's routine to do it now. You have some interesting tricks, generally consisting of chugging Carlsberg and spins.  :)
unfortunately pipes arn't in it but the trick set off kicker ramps and tables fill the void.
Totally wanted to add the Syntax comp crew, it's just my personal idea is most likely way off.

tray surfing like a true queens park ranger  ;D

Finally got a video up of the game. not to sure what's happening with that video compression.
Took Stevie-G's advice and just added a back button which works just as well along side a few other changes.
any-who all done, tested and all that jazz.  :)

Mate, that looks cracking, even with the dodgy video. Looking forward to giving this a play.

Nice idea for the menus with the moving cursor. I assume that's what you meant about trying to keep the whole game including menu's working with just one button?
