I've created an update in the testing channel with J7M's icon design - but recreated in blender (by orlando w-s) - hope this is okay :)

The update also has some audio fixes.

Hi, I don't understand. Can you show us the final version of the logo?

chrisws

This is the version of the logo currently on the testing channel. It's a recreation of J7M's image by Orlando using blender.

https://github.com/chrisws/SmallBASIC/blob/12_28/images/sb-logo.png

The image is a little dark so probably not the final rendering.

To see it properly on your device you could become a SmallBASIC beta-tester.

The "S" on the logo is not perfectly aligned to the "box" - while the "B" tries to do so ...

This looks inconsistent.

Also you should better use J7M's SVG as base and adjust to your needs - Blender spits out pixel data (yes, SVG is possible too ...) while SVG is a ...you guess it, scalable vector graphic.

This means it it can be used to export in the pixel size you want ... but also can be used directly be Desktop Environment capable of doing so.

For icons:
SVG >> rasterized image data

(Made in Blender) Logo itself:
the shadowing is too subtle to be seen when scaled down. Logos need to "emphasize/exaggerate" a bit .. simply check how it looks if you do a 32x32px icon in your application window (on Windows) ... there is a reason why in the past "different" icons were created for applications - depending on the final px size simplications were used.

This aside it does not even care about the "effect" J7M tried to create with their logo:
sb_1.png

See the "S" ending right on the vertical line the cube builds?

Now compare the "recreation":
sb2.png

It simply blaced an "embossed S" on the left front face of the cube ... this makes it look awkward as the shading of the front faces is so subtle that it already looks as if the right front face has a "bending" on its left side.

The whole thing looks "misaligned" (compared to J7M's design - which just lacked some "idea" to push the "s" from whitespace like in the app-drawer-screenshot above. This can be a blunt "drop shadow", some outline, ... anything).

But J7M's approach is far superior to the Blender one when judging "accuracy", "symmetry", "paying attention".
So consider asking that user to try to improve the blender render - first iterations are in almost all cases not the best, always way to improve.

And while they are doing it ... maybe replace color choice/"intensity" with a less "dull" one (it all looks a bit "foggy" as if a gray layer is placed on top or it is desaturated by 10%)... there is no need to play mousy - be proud of your application (does not mean your logo should cry for attention with candy colors).

Edit: I add a new image here with markers to "oddities" one can pay attention to:
sb3.png
The bottom is marked to emphasize that the "S" ends earlier than the cube's face.
J7M's suggestion already had that "B"-middle-cut done on the right side. On the left it did not have it, the Blender based "recreation" now created a "left cut" too by embossing the "S" to the outside. Maybe take the chance and have a "similar cut" as the right side on the left ... dunno how this looks then as it will "half" the upper "slent" of the "S" (but should do well as it cuts then at the same width as the right upper line of the "B".

The analysis made by you for the design of the logo is objective and detailed. Good job. We can learn a lot from it.
