I took another shot at making my own fireworks.
EDIT: with a little staging I think I got a better shot.

Your fireworks logos are nice and complicated. Perhaps this article can inspire you: https://www.brandcrowd.com/blog/32-fireworks-logos-for-spectacular-brands

I asked chatgpt to create a design brief, this is what it produced:

Design Brief: Android Application Icon for GPL SmallBASIC
Project Title:
Redesign the Android application icon for GPL SmallBASIC
Objective:
Create a modern, visually appealing, and recognizable app icon for the GPL SmallBASIC application that reflects its functionality as a lightweight, open-source programming language for learning and small projects. The icon should stand out in app stores while adhering to Android's material design guidelines.
Target Audience:
  • Programmers and hobbyists learning BASIC programming.
  • Students and educators using SmallBASIC for educational purposes.
  • Users of lightweight and open-source software.
Design Elements:
  • Core Themes:
    • Simplicity and clarity to reflect the lightweight nature of the application.
    • Emphasis on programming, coding, or logic.
    • Incorporation of a visual nod to the GPL/open-source ethos (e.g., an open book, community-inspired elements, etc.).
  • Color Scheme:
    • Use vibrant, inviting colors that match Android's modern design aesthetic.
    • Consider shades of green (open-source) or blue (reliability, learning).
  • Icon Shape:
    • Maintain a scalable, adaptable shape that works well in various sizes, per Android adaptive icon guidelines.
    • Rounded square base preferred for uniformity with Android design.
  • Imagery and Symbolism:
    • A stylized representation of the word "BASIC" (e.g., in a retro terminal style).
    • Coding symbols like brackets, a command-line interface, or a small script file.
    • A hint of community or collaboration (e.g., interlocking shapes or an open folder).
  • Typography (Optional):
    • If text is included, it should use a clean, modern typeface that's legible at small sizes.
Functional Considerations:
  • Ensure the icon is clear and recognizable at various resolutions (e.g., 48x48px, 96x96px, etc.).
  • Avoid clutter or overly intricate designs that might lose clarity when scaled down.
Deliverables:
  • Final icon in SVG and PNG formats.
  • Adaptive icon assets for Android (foreground and background layers).
  • A brief explanation of the design choices and how they align with the app's goals.
Deadline:
[Specify timeframe, e.g., 2 weeks from project initiation]
Additional Notes:
  • Keep the design neutral yet engaging for global audiences.
  • Ensure it adheres to GPL principles if including any derivative work.

It then went on to create a whole bunch of different icons, but they were all too busy and not really suited as android app icons.

These are logos of some modern BASIC languages. Are they inspiring?

I get the distinct feeling @chrisws and @round157 are trying to tell me something.

I am missing an ideal, I get that.

Reading through the AI report, it's no wonder Chris reports:
QuoteIt then went on to create a whole bunch of different icons, but they were all too busy and not really suited as android app icons.
I sure would like to see the examples of what is not acceptable and not good for Android, there might be ideas there that could be made better.

@round157 Do you think that Naalaa example works? I can see the others as simple 2D designs not the least like a photo.

I do like green and blue, my favorites when both are present. The AI report has given me some good ideas, I believe.
How to jam all that into a simple scaleable image, what a challenge  :o

Here's what chatgpt produced after quite a few iterations.

Ok here is nice flat colorful design and rounded corners:

TM is for Tile Maker, I have used this design as my Avatar that I made from my Tile Maker program.

here one more idea:
- from small to big
- algorithm: Area of the squares: An = 2*An-1
- SB or brackets with symbolized code in last square
- a lot of blue

Another horse has entered the race ;)

You are right Android writes the name below the icon so its NOT needed in it.

I like the symbolic lines for coding in 2 to right and 4th.

I would move SB top left, code lines below that and use right side for design. And yes more color, left side blue, right side green.

All this represents coding as 2 step process going left to right, write the code in under sB and enjoy your results in output screen on right. Of course there is the endless editing but that's too much info for an icon LOL!

Following my advice, here is different sizes:

Today I learned a lot on how to use Inkscape. I made a plain logo, without any connection to coding.

That's not bad either, pretty dang simple!

I learned today that all Google apps have White backgrounds so I recommend not White (! White) say Green (like Android's) for background.
