Matty

Good Day to you....

I present a Windows game Puzzle Wars Armageddon:

C# Version Download: https://www.mattiesgames.com/match3/puzzlearmageddonv1.zip

(standalone executable - does not need .NET)

Written in C#

Graphics purchased from craftpix

Some graphics done by me.

Same mechanic as my other game...

Matty

at 0.20 the guy moves the pieces - NOT by pressing in between them and magically swapping... but by selecting the first one then selecting the one to move to. Does this mean anything to you?

Matty

Yes....but then we've already had this discussion.

iWasAdam

so why post a video that shows what EVERYONE:
A - wants
B - expects
C - YOU don't give a SH*T about

And then you keep whining on about why 'no one likes my games', etc

I am going to say it again - THIS IS A TERRIBLE MECHANIC!

Listen, observe and learn!

Xerra

Wait, what? You finished this game already. Is it for the compo or you just decided to release it and not enter?
M2 Pro Mac mini - 16GB 512 SSD
ACER Nitro 5 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel® Core™ i7, RTX 3050, 1 TB SSD

Matty

Yes to both.

I wrote what I wanted to make for myself on a white board - common themes, then yesterday morning bought some graphics and finally coded it up.

Matty

Adam,  imagine a visitor to the site who had no knowledge of your or my previous posts-what do you think they would make of your attitude to a member showcasing their hard work?

They might think this place is unwelcoming, negative and poisonously critical.

Matty. So every answer must be nice and happy clappy.

My Dear Matty I find your software intriguing, but how come it doesn't work?

I could go back through your posts and quote you saying stuff like "it's programmed that way because I want it that way". And all your hundreds of posts whining about why no one likes your games, etc. And also the many many many replies giving your nice helpful advice that YOU choose to ignore.

Just judging from the screenshot:
- scifi theme ... might suit you too (seems you prefer fantasy and scifi)
- scifi + wars can work too (but require visual effects :D)

- match blocks on the left do look a bit "dull" (colors desaturated) which might be suiting ... if the rest would fit
- borders of the match blocks are distracting a bit (they create the "grid look" which is OK but they are too prominent compared to their "content")
- background of the left and right side is "too zoomed in" (bigger little rocks than units on the right etc)
- background on the left is dark, on the right is bright ... and the center? just nothing, maybe add some elements to make left and right sight "belong together" (while still having the visual "match 3" and "extra game" zones)
- match blocks do not have a huge drop shadow, hud on the right has big drop shadows albeit both share the same "design" and should "float" above their background
- match blocks in the "inventory" (right hud) are off on the Y axis by 1-2 pixels

I am not sure (maybe I even doubt it) but maybe you should considering __slightly__ tinting the backgrounds of the match blocks to suit the "color" of that block (else the dark red of the ship does not help much to see the ship on the equally dark background)

As said I cannot judge gameplay - only screenshot for now.

Matty

Well....in terms of gameplay, I can get to level 24....any takers on challenging how far they can progress?

Derron

Maybe better try out adding some extra blocks to keep extending the gameplay over the levels (add more and more)

Checkout other match3 games ... and as written by others: copy some stuff which makes them successful.

also I mentioned the issues I already saw from simple screenshots (so did not loose too much words about actual gameplay). Maybe tackle these instead of trying to find people playing a raw prototype with already mentioned and identified issues.

I doubt it!  :P

How (excuse me while I flap my hanky) very dare you call me poisonous!

At no time have I ever resorted to calling people names!

You on the other hand - have repeatedly asked for feedback, ignored feedback, whined about feedback, complained because no one likes your work, and generally behaved poorly blaming all your issues on whatever you can think of apart from yourself.

I will tell you politely:
This game has the worse mechanic of this kind/style of game! You know it, we ALL know it - we have all told you in every possible way how to improve things - without resorting to name calling, etc. We have given you advice, we have given you suggestions, books, resources and it is still ALL OUR FAULT!

You now feel that reskinning it with bought assets will somehow make it a good game - it won't!
Along with changing the name into a terrible mish/mash of a game name will help too - it won't

I will give you a nice web page to visit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/4wwbzm/how_bad_is_an_assetflip/

It details what an asset flip game is. And this game fits the general definition of it. It's not polished. it has terrible user controls. it has assets bought in to attempt to make it look good! YOU (as the developer) have repeatedly and deliberately ignored advice, etc.

And if you wan't some better discourse - please avoid resorting to name calling and being as passively aggressive as you are now turning too.

But above all Matty - don't ask for feedback and then blame people for giving you positive feedback!

And certainly don't try to bring in etherial others:
Quoteimagine a visitor to the site who had no knowledge of your or my previous posts-what do you think they would make of your attitude to a member showcasing their hard work?
They might think this place is unwelcoming, negative and poisonously critical.
To attempt to back up your frankly nasty attitude.

Yes I have been critical (and so have many many others)  - and yes there is all the data to back this up. All you have done is ignore and complain and whine. YOU have done nothing!

I thought I would end this 'polite' conversation with my last toxic, poisonous and overall frightfully nasty quote before you created this 'new' game:
QuoteMatty have you thought about Godot - which would take care of all the nasty stuff for you and allow you to just to program with lots of scope to grow :)

Now (insert evil voice here), for my next and utmost foul suggestions:

If that toxic movie didn't scare you, how about this mega-disgusting, all-out, bullying fest for you:

Mwa-ha-ha-ha.....

And finally for my most evil and humiliating experience:
Watch (with utter terror) from 0.26 for critical and violently expressed behaviour on how not to write a UI experience...

You get the idea... It's up to you how you treat your users. but don't blame us if there aren't any and you can't be bothered to at least try to do something that other (apart from yourself) might actually want to play... !

Here are some words that might just inspire you:

Luscious
Sympathetic
