Well this is a lot of info. I actually own a lexmark E210 right now. It still works, but it's so old that I can't find any drivers to be using with it. So it's practically useless right now.

Just got rid of my mono laser printer.  Dirt cheap to run but it was a big old lump and taking up too much space.
The depends on how you would define cheap. You get more value for your money with high capacity toners than the standard or light. Even though high capacity toners cost more.
Some thing like a genuine Ricoh SP204 high capacity toner costing around the £80 mark, would on average print 2,6000 pages (3.2p per page). While a genuine standard toner costing £75, would on average print 1,500 pages (5.0p per page).

A compatible high capacity replacement costing half of the price of the genuine toner, would be a money saver, but you are taking a chance with a compatible replacement with print quality and the toner cartridge possibly being of poor construction that it could damage the printer.

If you only print letters, invoices and stuff then a mono laser is a good option.  Colour laser printers are much more expensive to run.

Yeah I ended up getting a laser myself at the beginning of the year, this is personally the unit I've got:

For a laser it's small as hell, but doesn't do scanning or colour. So I just use my old canon when I need to do any of those (which isn't often, it's only ever used for CD labels now lol)

I bought Epson and it really annoyed me.. with no user interface on its printer  >:(
anyway.. other than that it seems it works fine
