The only real way now to connect a Floppy disk drive now to a modern PC/laptop is via using an external USB floppy drive. There should be plenty of those still around going for £20-£25 on Amazon.

There is also modules you can get that plug into the internal motherboard USB ports that and the be use to connect a normal FDD.
Search for: USB to FDD Floppy Drive Module 1.44MB Floppy Drive Interface to USB Floppy

Do you have any experience of this. Im trying to Boot Win98SE. The drive i had it on no longer works. Ive almost forgotten Fdisk, format c:, cd c: LoL.

Ive forgotten that installing Windows 98 without a floppy drive can be a little awkward as there are no CD rom drivers if its put on a Disk  :-X :-[

Well you are going to have problems getting drivers for Windows 98. The only real option for Windows 98 is a getting a retro PC with all hardware drivers. That way you shouldn't have too much trouble.

Though if retro hardware is an issue, then the last alternative is to search for installing Windows 98 via a USB memory stick.

Come to think of it, if I remember. Windows 98SE could boot from CD and had the basic utilities to set up hard disks. The down side was that the disk formatting tool didn't support large hard disks. So if you have the original installation floppy, then you will have to find the updated version of format.

You could then create your own custom Windows 98se installation disk.

Yeah thats how im doing it. It boots from CD to A: from the CD. then do the Fdisk format stuff. It gives you the option for Fat16 or Fat32. But when i reboot it doesent see the CD Rom :-\

I no longer have the Floppy drives. I seem to remember putting them in a folder on the hard drive and running from there ::)
