The problem in this day and age is that all the best names are either trademarked, copyright or patent pending. 

You're right! But that shouldn't stop us from creating a nice to remember language name. I even plan to start working on a cross platform (Mac, Windows) IDE in direction of JungleIDE with better deployment support and so on...

I've been thinking along the same lines, but for all three desktops. I've been toying around with a few GUI frame works and in my opinion Qt is still the best frame work for native compiled cross platform.

Some time ago, I suggested BlitzNext for Monkey2, but without Mark being involved, I would suggest something that is not related to BlitzBasic.

How about something like Presto?

I agree with the relation thing. And I like Presto very much. The meaning behind it is awesome too, indicates speed. To seperate it from the verb, maybe like this?

I liked BlitzNext and BlitzX (or BlitzCross)... but I guess we cant use "Blitz".

I dont really have an issue with Monkey(X) these days either, must have gotten use to it.

At the moment all I can think of is "MXP" (in honor of Monkey, MonkeyXPro).

I call monkey MX1 and MX2

Mark has shown that he doesn't care about marketing or sensible/cool names - he just does what makes him happy.  Fair point, but he has destroyed his business and people laugh at the name Monkey...He doesn't care.

So people will either use, or not use Monkey.  The man cannot be helped, so simply get on coding with Monkey if it suits you.  That is the only way of helping, name changes will not happen as Mark will not listen.  A real shame that.

Steve, we've taken over so we want to change the name and put quite some work into it, e.g. a better IDE.

FlexGL would be another idea, where GL stands for game language.

CrossGL would be a nice one

I like most of MonkeyX. But that's probably because I do not speak English. For us the name "MonkeyX" sounds very cute.
If I have to choose from the suggestions, I prefer:

Blitz Luquid
Void-X
Daemon-X
Hydra
Medusa
