I am pretty much finished with my character studio(makes 2D sprite sheets for use in RPG style games) and was going to put it up on Itch.io for a few bob(I don't think people here would be interested in it but I may get a few buyers from the rpgmaker users) I think I need some kind of opening contract type thingy. do you agree to the terms and conditions type of thing.(Obviously people can use the sprites they create in anything they want but I don't want people giving the sprite sheet parts away on free sprite sites) I have never had to deal with this sort of thing before so I was looking online for some kind of "Agreement Base" that I could copy and modify but could not find anything. I know a few of the Blitz users have released content creation products in the past so any ideas, advice or links to useful information would be great

I know everyone will disagree but if it were me I'd simply say something like:

"Licence is common sense.  Use software in spirit it was intended.  If you don't, well then you're an a $$hole and you will know it in your own soul even if no one else does.  Thank you."

Note if you go for proper legal speak - are you really going to enforce infractions?

There is one issue:

You have "original" sprites which you do not want to have them used "outside" your software right?
The sprites they create ... what can they do with it?

Why am I asking? What happens if they do not put on any clothes on them ... so they export "nude" chars - can they use them freely or not?

If I don't put a license then people will wonder if they can even use them in commercial games ect and if I do put a license I may as well stop people from distributing everything all over the internet for free. But yes they can use anything they produce in their own games(or any game they are working on) but I don't want to find places like OpenGameArt.org to be filled with my graphics for people to just use free(Maybe I sound like an asshole there, I should be happy if people are using my graphics)

I'll say it again.

If you put a restrictive licence....are you really going to enforce it?

probably not(Just send a message telling them to take it down maybe) but other people don't know that.
Plus like I say if I put nothing then people will want to know if they can use them in commercial games ect so I still have to put something at the beginning.

Okay...let's say your licence was 'Do as you wish' - are you really going to lose sleep if they use it for things you wish they hadn't - and are you even going to know?

Just make your sample artwork so shit that nobody wants it.

Problem solved.

Its a program for people to create their own characters out of the built in sprite sheets if I did that nobody would buy it
