Title: Ultim Test 1
Post by: EdzUp on October 26, 2017, 07:33:50 PM
After much key tapping and head scratching I am now ready to release a test of Ultim (not a AAA test just a basic render) its so I can glean if it works on everyones machines or not. Its attached to this post, this is written in pure OpenGL without any graphics libraries but does require OpenAL for audio ;). There maybe a network test in there as well its a simple connection test to see if the network is present, it doesnt connect to anything.

Its been a long time in coming mainly due to real life things taking up waaaay more time than I would like so I have about a few minutes every so often to code small segments here and there but its still moving forwards :D

Please read the readme file in the archive ;)

If its not ok to post things like this here please delete this post :)

Thanks for testing it :)

Once I know it works well I will expand on the whole thing and make a game with it :)

Works on an iMac (late 2013) with Bootcamp and Windows 10, too (see sig). And I had a Windows Firewall notice.

thanks Krischan, the notice is for a server test with enet I was working on. I will be rolling my own ipv6 system when I get to that stage as I have code for it already :)

I have tested on a eeepc 701SD with XP and it works on that too which is good :)

Ah I understand. As long as your tool didn't hacked all my secret passwords and PINs and sent them to your server ;)

Had a go, and well, its seems a little bit, well... Jittery, as in, the rotation of the image isnt smooth!

Yeah the timing on the system isn't in there for this test I do have timing code which makes it smooth but I haven't brought it from the old framework over to Ultimate yet.

Yeah, what's with that EdzUp?  Just a jittery spinning 2d sprite in comparison?!

Only joking, early days lol.

I run the exe and nothing happens except I get a DebugLog file appear with this info :

This is a test

So is this :)

::Initialising graphics window....

*EDIT* - Tried that UNIGINE Heaven that Dabz references and that works super smooth at full HD ( wouldn't of liked to have tried that on my old 2013 iMac :P ).

*EDIT* - Just tried again with Windows 7 in Parallels and get exactly the same as above. weird.

Specs :

System : iMac 2017 27" Retina 5K
CPU : 3.8 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory : 32GB DDR4
GPU : Radeon 580 Pro 8GB

Tried Windows 10 ( bootcamp ) and Windows 7 ( Parallels ).

Thanks guys :)

Qube: it seems to be failing at the windows initialisation which I will have to look into further :)

I do have code for a osx version so once I set that I will release a multi build :)

I have uploaded the projects to git hub you can get to them at https://github.com/EdzUp

I cannot provide any assistance with the source code hut might point people in the right direction. I will be adding to it as time goes on as well :)

I tried running it in WINE on Linux and got the same debug log as Qube. And nothing else after that, it was worth a shot.

On my windows 8 laptop it was giving me this error:
Code: [Select]

The program can't start because OpenAL32.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

The debug log was not created when I tried to run it.
And I ran it from inside the downloads folder if that has any relevance.
I am using windows 8.1 64 bit operating system.

Got it working, thanks Dabz.

I think it's all working.
I did get a security alert, probably from the internet test.

Works fine on Win 8.1 (64 bit)
i5-4670k
AMD Radeon R9 200 Series

No security alerts (kaspersky)

Thanks guys.

There probably won't be security alerts as it doesn't connect to anything just runs server sort of thing without connections. This net code will be replaced with code I have somewhere else as it's only ipv4 :)
