Title: Hi guys
Post by: Jason_W on July 19, 2017, 14:31:50
I missed the last days of BB.com, but I'm glad I found this site.

I was worried all that history and code archives would of been gone forever.   Thanks for setting up this site.

Hi Jason,

Qube has done a great job on the new Syntaxbomb, popping it up straight away and then fixing everything we can think of, porting the BB code archives, setting up syntax highlighting, etc. Yes we're lucky to have him! :D

Skid did a pretty sweet job on http://wasted.nz too, now you can Google blitzbasic.com and it always redirects to wasted. Not sure how it will work in the long run though, I think it's 3 months before dead sites get removed.

Thanks mark!

I found wasted too, but little to no activity.    It's a shame BB.com is down, I really enjoyed going there just to hang out.   The really sad thing is I was just started to used Blitzmax again since I have been activity programming again at work.

My only worry is the manual section of BB.com goes away. http://www.blitzbasic.com/Manuals/_index_.php

Any idea if that will be migrated over or is that a copyright thing?

Jason

I am not surprised as it is just an archived version of the blitz forums. You can't post there.

I think someone said that they were going to make a archive of the site, including the manuals.
But then the forums got taken down, and I don't know or remember what happened to them.

I think the point of closing blitzbasic.com was to cut expenses, it seems Mark S was paying a lot for the forum hosting and not getting enough in donations. The archive site is now just a regular hosting cost. I don't think Mark intends to stop hosting blitzbasic.com but if he does I'm sure the manuals will be archived on the wasted site.

Brucey is slowly working on a blitzmax NG site which will have community tutorials, language and API/command references and examples. http://www.syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,64.0.html

If the manuals are not copyrighted ( are they? ) I could happily add them to here :)

??? Well it seems there are no licenses with the documentation for any Blitz language. This is not necessarily a good thing according to this https://blog.codinghorror.com/pick-a-license-any-license/ which basically states that you're better off with a license because no license allows the right to enforce your copyright at any time. When it comes to documentation it is sometimes mentioned in software licenses (like MIT) but generally not. As I see it all you need to do is add credits as they appear in the docs and it should be legit. It would be correct legally to ask Mark Sibly or Simon Armstrong first, since they wrote most of the API documentation but they probably won't mind.

I'll fire off an email to Simon and ask if it's OK to add them here. Permission is always better than expensive lawyer letters flying back and forth.

I've not heard back from Simon as of yet about hosting the Blitz manuals here. I'll give it another couple of days :)
