I so pleased to hear you had a selection of computers at your school! Very sorry to hear you had a ManU football game to put up with thou! LOL

We had a couple Archimedes at school, in addition to the usual BBC's  --- Used to polay Lemmings and a ManU football game

Steve Elliott

2024-04-06, 11:46:23
Yes it had real potential (that's why I bought one) and the CPU was so fast compared to anything around with 8 channel sound. It was never marketed as a games machine, more an update to the BBC Micro that was popular in schools. There were games for it but not enough. Elite, Zarch, Lemmings, Gods, Canon Fodder, SWIV, the magnetic scrolls adventure games etc - ie stuff that was already available on other more popular systems.

The Acorn Archimedes was a beast and very capable. Could have been an Amiga beater but came in at the wrong time and advertising was dreadful. I only knew one person who had one :))

Maybe Qube could put an official post up about the RMC/Arcade Trip and anybody interested could show their interest there.  lol I don't think it's necessary for people not interested to post. But if you fancy a visit to a a museum full of working retro computers, books, magazines and other tech with a fully working arcade full of arcade machines from back in the day in a picturesque old mill then lets see if we can put a few faces to names and have a good time!  :D

BlitzMazNG is the best but the INT's need polishing?

3DzForMe

2024-03-02, 06:27:03
Blitz3D still does the bizzo - great product, good to hear it'll be getting some polish.

Derron

2024-02-28, 15:03:43
I guess Blitz3D-users would probably use it - if/once it is "usable" and easy to setup (drop-in replacement). ... if funding/backing will be "enough" - I kinda doubt that. But if he is willed enough to make it a fun project for him (and others). Then why not - coding mojo is what counts.

Qube

2024-02-28, 11:13:35
Hope him well with it but I'm not sure how well it'll take off after the debacle over the previous languages and forums. But as said, I wish him and his project all the best.

Cool that you won it Qube, for me it wasn't cheap on Ebay lol. But I've been re-buying old languages I owned back in the day and fondly remember - like STOS and Fast BASIC. And now I have an Amiga the languages popular there. It is certainly very impressive, but yes ring bound and you can read it without it closing on you (which you need when at the computer).

Qube

2024-02-13, 22:56:44
@Steve Elliott The AMOS Pro manual is a beast, lol. I remember when I won AMOS Pro in a competition I was mighty impressed by it. Good manual which covers everything but a shame it wasn't ring bound even though luckily it didn't break up.

I hate downloads. Having to wait god knows how long for a 100Gb game to download on a NOW TV SuperFiber broadband. And even then you don't actually own the game and are at the whim of the publisher and software house to continue the support of the game and services. Never had that kind of problem with an actual physical media.

Steve Elliott

2024-02-12, 19:12:46
Blimey AMOS Professional comes in a big box with a big manual too. I miss this kind of software package. A download is just not the same.

Yes Steve. I remember those days. We didn't just get taught the Green Cross Code at school. We also were taught it by Darth Vader on the telly. But at school, we were also taught bike safety and to be aware of your surrounding at all time. In other words, basic road sense.

Steve Elliott

2023-12-21, 18:05:52
Well for a start as kids we were taught the Green Cross Code on how to cross a road as a pedestrian - look left, right and so on. Rather than blindly step into traffic while head down on your f*cking phone!
