And if anyone else wants that same exact theme: https://colorlib.com/wp/themes/sparkling/

Hmm...

Jeez, that's one bright theme :o - almost burned me retinas out :P - Looks better than the older site but they definitely need a darker theme for the ones who can't stare at nuclear bright themes too long.

it's also got a new site logo - which no-one asked for as well. Pity that anything that people actually want and ask for is ignored or rejected out of hand.

Hi,

The official website of Monkey2 looks quite professional!! Sure.  :D

My feeling is that the images of Cerberus X and Monkey2 are very similar. For example, their logos are also heads of animals.

Maybe there are some kinds of competitions between the development teams of both softwares, I am not sure.

Competition may lead to great progresses in both softwares in the future!

Sure, both names are animals, one real, one maybe fictional.

No, not from my point of view.

After all this time I still don't see easily found sections I would expect from such a project, like "features", "demo's", "screenshots", "videos" etc. Stuff that would attract new customers, besides the incrowd coding enthousiast.

But hey 'guess' they don't know much about marketting a product or never ever look at the competition. Or.. unless.. no wait: they're building a new version of C, not a game-programming language. (what was I thinking) lol

Don't mean to step on any toes, but if so I still do not see the relevance of the language - at all.

[EDIT]
Also I have a new suggestion for the name: M++
Which would break with the past and the animal-kiddy-like-made-up-name and make it look even more similar to C and perhaps one day it would actually gain interest and acceptance by the professional(read bizz) community of coders, as that appears to be their goal.

*I'm probably missing the point, but they up till now failed to enlighten me.

I've also noticed the forum is slowly getting quieter and the 'lets make c++' start to appear.
There are huge posts about variables, reflection, and really strange esoteric language features. When the language is not too bad, but the documentation, communication, and everything else that should be there just isn't.

Mark seems to add features (that get substantially changed), break things, etc on a whim, that does nothing good to those who might use the language.

Stuff that needs attention, fixing, basic missing graphics stuff, etc - regardless how loud or kind you ask, or tell, or dress up as a clown or jump off a cliff, or anything. Nothing gets done. it's like Mark is sitting typing away happily doing whatever, whenever. Which is great - but doesn't really help Monkey2.

I'm using an older version just because everything new breaks the older stuff (for no reason it seems apart from deliberate, or pre-designed that way).

There are posts still arguing about the logo, etc. stuff that should have been finalised. Mark just lets the rant go on without any interaction or communication that posts are even relevant.

There is soo much potential in monkey2. it's very stable, very nice to use and I like the way it does things. but everything else...

TBH would I recommend Monkey2? (I use it every day and love it) I think No. For the simple reason it is in Alpha and you can't depend on anything that works today will work with a future update.

But if you can live with all of that, and are coming from BlitzMax then yes, you are probably used to all of this so Yes. Give it a go.

Well, I think Mark is (still) working on Mojo3d (I saw a recent post about 3d culling) so *probably* any changes in Monkey2 (that can break things) is due to this.

Moreover there's a thread about an OS gui (based on a opensource library, to use standard GUI on Win, Linux and MacOS) that allows (well, should allow!)  to write 'desktop' application without too much problems.

To be honest (following my interest!) I would prefer Mark focus on that one (I would pay for a such module ala MaxGUI!) than on 3d engine...

One thing I would like to see is about IoT: it's the next.big.thing (in my opinion), and there's not even a 'standard', many opensource (or not) approach etc.
Having an open source language (M2) AND a module (ready-to-use) for this could be interesting: many hobbyiest would find M2 a better solution than a full installation of C++ & co!
And surely there's 'home' at the moment to be on the 'front line'...
I just bought some weeks ago a 'smart home hub' from Xiaomi (Mijia or something), very low cost but working, also any single 'sensor' (temperature, switch, etc) is very cheap.
I would like to write my personal server and an Android app to 'manage' everything... it would be very interesting.

Sounds interesting, you mean this stuff?

The thing which connects via Chinese servers? Better wait for the next big hacker fair. Some dudes are already reverse engineering the Xiaomi-smart-home-stuff to be able to run local servers. Xiamo smart home stuff reports some private data to their servers (exact location and so on). Their vacuum cleaners seem to store the layout of your home - even if you do a factory reset.

So as long as private data is so insecurily exposed people should be at least a bit "concerned".

@Rick:

Yes exactly. At the moment I haven't do any 'smart' thing with the sensors I got, just monitoring temperature... I'm looking for a smart-plug(*) to use the 'switch' to implement
some interesting automatic jobs (ie: temperature < X, activate heating)

* the main problem is due to the not-UE plug... I need adaptors from Australia to EU plugs and it seems at the end to play with Lego :D !

@Derron

I know the 'problem' of the chinese servers and the 'concerns' about our private data: but the fact is today final user can only decide who can spy his own data, US, China or Russia... :D (it depends of course by the device's producer, I have the same concern about Alexa, Google Home (or what's the name) et simila.
And of course just choose the sensor you need: I don't consider door-lock or alarm system based on this secure and efficient: no internet (or no energy) and your are off.

And exactly because I found that the Xiaomi ecosystem (among others) seems to using an underling standard (zigbee) and there are these 'experiments', I think having a ready to use solution for the final user (not for the hacker one!) could be a potential thing for Monkey2.
(I found some people running on a Raspberry-thing a sort of local-server based on an open-source program... but everything seems very 'raw')
So I'm imaging a server (written in M2 for example) to handle data from the hub (but this is 'closed'... ) and maybe some Android apps (the Xiaomi Home is a big monsters... better having separate thing, one to just monitor/report and one to 'program' the system.

Well, in any case my was just an idea of a 'potential' use of MX2 - outside the 'game' field (and 3d!).
