Thanks Qube, yeah I posted a pic in the gallery for a bit. Quite a character too until her health issues got the better of her lately. The Wife and I are devastated. But we try and remember the good times spent with her.

I wil get the iPad pro(12inch has better sound) with m3 when it gets out next year. That may be 6 months away. The extra energy effeciency sounds good(hot stuff!) And 20% extra performance.

I've already got a M2 Max Macbook Pro, so I will wait for the M4 or at least the M3 Ultra before upgrading. The colour 'Space Black' looks very nice.

Steve Elliott

I see Apple have released the new M3 Chips. The Pro seems the 1 to avoid. So either the M3 or M3 Max are the ones to consider IMO if you like Apple laptops.

It has 8 colours in 256×256 or 4 in 512×256...Clive Sinclair over promised definitely. I always thought it a nice looking machine. It sits next to my Spectrum Next, an even nicer looking machine and infinitely more powerful (as far as 8-bits go).

I have a Sinclair QL with a Schon Keyboard. Its a lovely keyboard. Shame the OS was crap and it only had 4 colors. I had high expectations of it when it was first mentioned. I thought it was going to blow the ZX Spectrum out the window when it first came out.

Eventually got around to replacing the keyboard membrane on the Sinclair QL and re-fitting the ROM chip on the BBC Micro (so lots of games can be accessed from a SD Card....And bought a new desk for them all to sit on! I'm using every inch of my Computer Room/Man Cave right now lol.

Regarding keyboards: nothing beats a nice MX Brown for me. Not too much resistance, you feel that "tactile bump" but there's no noisy click.

Logitech are good for keyboards and mice. Gotta love a mechanical keyboard if you can get one.

Steve Elliott

2023-07-20, 20:22:36
Haha because it maters mate lol - well if you code it does. I really hate typing on a spongy keyboard...And it matters because retro computers, and even arcades are coming back...But shhh I develop on VS Code on PC then to SD Card on Spectrum Next.

Qube

2023-07-20, 20:03:38
Talking of nice keyboards, my Logitech MX keys has a pretty decent feel to it. Very handy that you can toggle between different PC's rather than having to have multiple keyboards.

Qube

2023-07-20, 20:02:18
The BBC model B had a great keyboard. Not a great fan of the C64. Amstrad 6128 had a great keyboard too. Can't believe were talking about decades old keyboards  :))

Steve Elliott

2023-07-20, 19:44:40
16-bit was all about the graphics and sound for games! So lets put out a cheap crappy keyboard lol!

Steve Elliott

2023-07-20, 19:41:43
Haha, that did look like a real quality keyboard. It looked very impressive. Games, not so much. The Atari 800, BBC Micro and even the C64 are better than the Amiga and Atari ST I think lol. Even the Oric is better!

Qube

2023-07-19, 16:11:26
@Steve Elliott You should grab a TI-99/4A of you want to feel a quality retro keyboard ;D

Steve Elliott

2023-07-12, 22:29:55
Didn't the 16-bit Atari ST and Amiga have terrible keyboards compaired to the 8-bit computers like the Atari 800 and BBC Micro?

The AMOS Manual is dissappointingly small compared to STOS though (penny pinching) because it's physically smaller and is not ring bound - so you can't leave it open on a page without it closing on you. Which you need when typing in from the book.

Steve Elliott

2023-06-30, 19:36:41
Yes partly why I went with regular AMOS (I'd heard it was faster). Plus it was the equivilant of STOS with the Compiler which I remembered fondly.   :)

Qube

2023-06-30, 17:23:27
Loved AMOS until AMOS Pro came on the scene. The only downside to AMIS was the BOB ( sprite ) speed was sloooow. I think it could only handle between 4 and 8 bobs before it couldn't stay at 50fps but at least the compiler pretty much doubled that  ;D

Steve Elliott

2023-06-30, 13:13:59
As well as the games I picked up AMOS and the AMOS Compiler. I had STOS for the Atari ST back in the day, so will be interesting to see the differences in language.

Steve Elliott

2023-06-26, 20:09:26
Bought some software for my latest retro system (the Amiga).  I have a small collection for systems that I have nostalgia for - The Atari 800 (a mates computer)  Sinclair Spectrum (my 1st computer) and now the Spectrum Next. Plus the Amiga now.

Steve Elliott

2023-06-21, 16:25:15
lol true, CSpect is pretty good, but not 100% the speed of real hardware. But my understanding of asm is not good enough for a full game just yet. Actually I'm waiting on a Next book which promises some whizzing asm code :)

Qube

2023-06-20, 18:54:53
You can use your Spectrum Next for upcoming game comp and us mere mortals can play it via an emulator  ;D

Steve Elliott

2023-06-15, 19:29:05
The Spectrum Next Computer is my current coding machine though. Assembly language where you could take over the machine completely without any gatekeepers, liberating.

Steve Elliott

2023-06-15, 19:22:45
A while back I also picked up a Nintendo Switch Oled. I'm more a computer guy than a console one. But it's great. Mario Kart to Fast rmx to indie titles to retro games and it's portable too.

Oh Qube's a Pinball Wizard then lol   ;)  Yeah silky smooth scrolling on Amiga, just like the Atari ST (ahem). I wish I'd saved a bit more money back in the day. Seeing the impressive looking and sounding games like Shadow of the Beast and Agony  :'(
