Title: RIP Rutger Hauer
Post by: Qube on July 24, 2019, 19:10:54
Not really one for posting RIP's but holy crap, just seen that Rutger Hauer passed away a few days ago :(

Two of my favourite films of his which I've seen many times and are brilliant fun to watch. Must break them out again with a few beers me thinks.

Just read it on the BBC news. His portrayal of the replicant in Blade Runner was possibly one of  his best.

In shock.  Blade Runner is one of my all time favourite films.  Tears in the rain :(

First time I've read about a "celebrity" death here first.
Last film of him I watched was "Hobo with a shotgun" (which I saw after "Valerian" - in which he was not the major actor)... not a master piece but worth a look with buddies and some booze.

Think I will see him again in "The sisters brothers" (on my "to watch" list for the next cold evening).

Cannot imagine how to react when it hits one of my fav 80s action actors.

bye
Ron

I remember many of his highlights and some of his not so well known films from the Eighties, for example. Anyone remember Salute of the Jugger, for example.

I thought he was a great actor and I'm sad to see him pass. Films like Bladerunner and Wanted: Dead or Alive just don't get made as well these days. That ending speech in Bladerunner still gives me tingles even now when I think of it.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

R.I.P. indeed.
I'm a bit surprised, I mean, of course I'm aware that he was in quite a bunch of movies, but didn't know he was this well known abroad.
Some of his early, but classical works have probably never been seen abroad due to the explicitness of Dutch movies.

He started of his career under the wings of director Paul Verhoeven( Total Recall, Robocop, Showgirls and many others) in a Dutch Ivanhoe-like TV-series called Floris, who also directed the above mentioned movie. He played the hero in this one, but in a later work he reprised this as an anti-hero in 'Flesh and Blood' .

I love the Blade Runner Tears in the Rain scene, of which is said he threw out 3 pages of text and just sort of improvised.

Didn't see anybody mentioning The Hitcher in which is he's an psychopathic killer on the road.

He was an iconic actor with a strong, overwelming aura, in some ways reminiscing of Brando's, but in a distinctly different way.

He certainly had a screen presence and ability to portray a character to the audience. Kinda sad when people you watched in the movies from childhood pass away.

I'm in the UK and I don't think I've even seen Porters :P - He was in a truck load of films and no doubt I've missed some gems over the years.

Can't say that I have seen that one too. And we like to think we get to see practically everything as we're not hindered/put off by reading subs, for as a small country we're used to it. Because who else in the world speaks Dutch  :P, only Belgians, Surinamese, some Antilleans and South Africans. Other than that:  no one. (we're all alone..)   :))
