Title: AMOS for Windows
Post by: MikeHart on September 01, 2017, 21:03:59
Some may know AMOS back from the AMIGA days. Today I got the news that a kinda windows version exists.

Even as an Atari ST guy back in the day, that warms my cockles. #oldskool   :D

Now your reputation dropped sharply, Steve. Atari ST? Come on. Amiga rulez!

Haha, but we had a faster processor and built-in MIDI...Plus I couldn't afford an Amiga lol.

Haha ok, everything's fine. I have to admit that the hi-res mode of the ST was way better than this flickering one of the Amiga...

Yes I did love that high res monitor, after the years of TV based computers - like the ZX Spectrum lol.

You can't beat the Amiga though for games like Lemmings and Battle Chess...And Defender of the Crown!

And on both systems, games like Speedball 2 and Xenon.

Oh yeah, looks like you are like me. Well beside that stupid ST decision.  :P

Defender of the Crown... Turrican... Populus... Memories come back...

Steve, I guess we need our own thread instead of spreading our memories all over SyntaxBomb.  ;D

Haha, I think it's called general discussion...Was good to reminisce tonight.  Thanks mate.

No doubt with an Amiga lives!  Splash screen...That only former ST users have to pay to have removed lol  ;)

Hehe, I had both. My history:

C64
CPC 464
C64
Amiga 1000
Atari STF 1024
Amiga 500
PC

The CPC 464, the Amiga 1000 and the Atari I bought always because I wanted to play one specific game. Crazy times back then!

Steve, so you had STOS too?

OK, where is the ban button on these forums :P

For the record, SyntaxBomb prefers the Amiga over the ST :D - I'll always have super fond memories of the day I loaded up Pro Tracker and armed with ST-01 and ST-02 sample disks created my first MOD tune. I still have it, it sounds shockingly bad, but I was in pure awe of the possibilities.

Ooh, a list of classics I had over the years :

Vic 20 ( had this for my 10th birthday and spent many many hours coding and playing games on it )
Texas TI-99/4A
ZX Spectrum 48k
Sinclair QL
Amstrad CPC 464
Amstrad CPC 6128 ( loved this one )
Atari 400
Atari 800 XL ( spent crazy hours playing Bruce Lee and IK + )
Commodore +4
Commodore 64
Amiga A500 ( 18th birthday )
Amiga A1200

Ah IK+, I think it came with my miggy, but I ditched it for I missed the humor, blood and gore from Barbarian on the C64.

Specially loved the move where you turn round and cut of the opponents head, which then bounces on the floor with a hollow sound(lol), he goes through his knees and a burst of blood sprays from it's neck. Then the troll like creature comes along, drags the body away and sometimes kicks the head away. Brilliant!  ;D

I used:

MSX AX170
MSX AX370
Amiga A600
Amiga 1200
PC (can not count how many but it starts with 80286 and ended with All in one DELL core i7)
MacBook G4 (Motorola days)
MacBook Pro (mid 2009)
MacBook Pro (mid 2014)

I loved the Amiga ( all of them ) and I think it was definitely the Lion King in its day, especially for games and also apps, only marginally rivalled by the ST because the ST had a MIDI port. In all other ways the Amiga was suprior. I had a 500 and a 1200 and I put a blizzard '060 into the A1200  :P

It was also the first computer that I used to gain access to the internet, Aminet specifically.

@Qube
I loved the trackers too, especically when Octamed was released :D
One that I've grown fond of is openmpt from https://openmpt.org/ (https://openmpt.org/)

We used to have the occasional nostalgia thread over on bb.com and as an 'olden' I love them

btw if you can help it... don't get older, I never had any health issues until I tipped over the 40 mark. Now I have a few ailments so I'm going into the 'garage' on Tuesday for an operation to get some minor repairs done :D

I didn't work with AMOS but I still have my old equipment and much more in the basement:

- VIC20
- C64-I / C64-II
- C128 / C128D (plastic) / C128D (metal)
- Floppies: 1541-I / 1541-II / 1571 / 1581
- Printer: MPS-801
- Monitor: C1084
- Amiga 500
- Amiga 1000
- Amiga 2000
- Schneider Euro PC
- Commodore PC-20
- Epson HX-20

My wife says that this is electronic garbage but for me it is pure nostalgia. I still have my floppy disks, too but copied all of them ages ago to the PC because they demagnetize.

QuoteMy wife says that this is electronic garbage but for me it is pure nostalgia.
My sister says a similar thing, until I tell her that what I have is worth around six grand.

Acorn Atom, Electron, BBC Micro Model B, Master 128 all with software and disk drives
Amstrad CPC 464 with colour monitor + software
Atari 800, 800XL all with software and cassette decks
Commodore VIC-20, C64, C128 all with software, cassette decks, disk drives and printers
Commodore Amiga 500, 600, 1200 all with software
Dragon Data Dragon32 with software
Enterprise 64
Mattel Aquarius with software, memory, expansion, cassette deck and printer
MGT Sam Coupe 512K with software
Tangerine Oric1 48K, Atmos all with software
Sinclair QL, ZX81, ZX Spectrum 16/48K, +2, +3 all with software, printer and other peripherals

Numerous magazines and books from that era.

As long as you find somebody who pays for it. Now would be a good time to sell it but I'll keep it, it is mine :-D My precious. You must take it from my cold, dead hands.

The first one I ever programmed on was an Exidy Sorcerer.  I think my Dad got me the Atari 800 so I'd leave his computer alone, heheheh

QuoteExidy Sorcerer
Well if I could get my hands on one of those in full working order, boxed, as well as a few other obscure commercial failures and classics, then I could die a very happy man knowing that I finally became a proud own of such wonderful toys, or as most would class it as "techno junk"

My mate had an Atari 800, while I had a ZX Spectrum...I was kinda envious.

Could have been worse, I could have had an Aquarius lmao  :D

I still have my Miggy1200 but I replaced the hdd with an SD card, works great. It's a tad yellowed though, so time to give it the good old Retrobright treatment..

Wow-   I know this is an old post but AMOS for Win works great and superfast on my Win 10 computer!  Funny thing is I dug out my A1200 last week and checked out my AMOS programs from the 90's - they still work.....but getting a decent picture on current lot of LCD monitors is not fun at all.  My old Commodore monitors are ancient and don't work well anymore. Used to have a A3000 but it died years ago- it had a decent VGA output.

On Aliexpress / ebay and the likes you can get a tv tuner/converter for little money that will allow you to hook up almost anything to a TV/LCD.

Yeah that's what I mean. These boxes contain all the hw we needed to have in the old Amiga days.
