I have Yar's Revenge on my 2600.  Could never make head nor tail of the bloody thing - even less so than ET.

The 2600 console was never a thing as I was growing up, obviously they were starting to go down the pan when I was old enough to understand the concept of it all, probably around the video game crash time... Obviously over the years till I got my Amstrad I played on them, mates older brothers had them and what not, but, even then, and this could be sacrilege... I thought they were a bit crap, and me and a few mates only played them as time killers when the weather was stotting outside! :D

I mean, they were what they were... But playing Pacman, like proper pacman on a cocktail arcade machine in a BnB in Blackpool, to the pile of complete wank of a game on the 2600, it just wasnt worth bothering about, even at that young age, I was like "This isnt pacman". In fact, I thought most games were shite if I'm honest, yeah, you have the classics I know, but then, even stuff like centipede still bored the tits out of me.

But, if people still found them fun, and got fond memories of the system, then who am I to judge, horses for courses innit Jon!

It was THE thing when I was growing up - got mine at Christmas 1981.  It gets a lot of stick, mostly because of ET.  The 2600 version of Pacman got a lot of shit as well but having never played the arcade version it was absolutely fine, to me.  It was a game - I wasn't comparing it to anything as the only other game I'd ever played was Combat.  Despite some iffy titles, you can't fault games like Pitfall 2, Frogger, River Raid, Decathlon, Pole Position, Jungle Hunt... even stuff like Crystal Castles, Dragster, Fishing Derby and Barnstorming were about the simplest games anyone could conceive but we still played them loads.

It sparked an interest that ran for over 30 years - even bought myself a light-sixer a few years ago.  It lives in a cupboard with all my Amstrads!
