Only 12 days to Christmas already....
« on: December 13, 2020, 12:15:59 AM »
I recall fervently chucking stuff together for a Christmas Mag courtesy of Syntax bomb this time last year..... Chance would be a fine thing this year! The benefits of opting for a different job.....

And it was a great submission :)

If we had done it this year it wouldn't have happened as I'm waiting for a fatal bug fix in the layout software....  :-[

Yeah, the Chrimbo mag was a cracker last year..... Maybe we should consider doing an Easter mag, 2021, or a summer solstice one, time for the creative juices to start sloshing around.

On the first day of Chrimbo, my true love sent to me, a partridge circling a pear tree.... 😁🎄🍐

It certainly was, but a lot went pear-shaped in 2020.  Looking forward to the 2021 one, I'm sure a lot of good releases will come in 2021.

There's still that Christmas demo comp "in quotes" that cube is running to maintain that syntax bomb
seasonal tradition I guess.

Last year Christmas magazine was brilliant and we’ll definitely do one for 2021. We’ll have to get iWasAdam to do his thing ;D

lol, I don’t think anyone’s going to be doing anything for that? I am but any excuse to do some Christmas silliness :))

OMG, I've forgotten all about that until it got mentioned here.

Certainly didn't get much done when I first started tinkering. I must be getting old.

So, anyone else had their Xmas plans go up in smoke this weekend now that the London area is now in tier 4 lockdown?

I know they have to do something but I really think this is actually going to make things worse judging by the thousands of people all cramming the train stations to escape London before midnight last night. Now it's going to spread out even further as some of them are bound to be carrying this virus. I think if they'd left Xmas alone then the damage wouldn't be half as bad as I suspect that madness is going to cause. People had already made plans and wouldn't have been trying to run for the hill, no doubt.

As it is 90% of people in the area I live appear to be totally ignoring any kind of restrictions anyway and nobody is challenging them.

Nope, because I was basing my Christmas around common sense* and saw ALL of this shit coming, like everyone should have done.

Saying that - my sister in law drove all the way up here from fucking Kent (tier 4) last night to visit her mum (tier 3).  We told them not to meet, but they did it anyway - only to deliver Christmas presents, but she's apparently a Jehovah's Witness this year, so, fuck knows what's going on there.  She was told in no uncertain terms to not come anywhere near my house, and she didn't.  I don't care if she's pissed off - I'm using my loaf, even if she's not.

* which, it turns out, isn't all that common.

And then people wonder why we have one of the highest Covid figures on the planet!

On a side-note you're using Jet Set Willy as your avatar?  Cool.  I recently purchased a copy for the ZX Spectrum on tape.  Back in the day some 'acquired' copies of games or lost their old software.  It's in very good condition and even has a pristine copy protection card (which is quite rare).

I guess I'm collecting now, it's partly due to preserving the history of computer software in the format of the day, massive nostalgia value, and when I get my Spectrum Next I could actually load the thing (while making a coffee to kill the time lol).

Yeah I saw that, but I was expecting a ZX Spectrum Next version.  I guess that comes next.

Yep, twas my fav game back in the 1980s.  Never owned a Spectrum but I had a CPC464 and, Amsoft junk aside, it was one of the first games I played, AND completed.

Yeah, certainly an old classic, with it's quirky humor.  I never completed it though, so well done.  Of course the later Spectrum Models and the Amstrads shared some hardware and keyboard similarities.  Although I guess the Amstrad had more colours and hardware sprites, but it was too similar to the Speccy so lazy ports made a lot of games look identical.
