Strong women in film and Star Wars original series
« on: November 27, 2020, 08:49:11 AM »
Is this statement fair/correct:

Whenever the discussion of strong female characters in film comes up the two goto characters are Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor.  However Princess Leia is rarely mentioned.

Why is that?

"Into the garbage chute flyboy"

"They let us go. It's the only explanation for the ease of our escape"

I eat cheese in the trees when its eight degrees

Are you talking strong figures just from the point of being capable fighters outside of a military background?

I look at strong women in movies a different way. Characters like Katherine Johnson in "Hidden Figures" - a great movie, if you haven't seen it. Female characters who stand up against Diversity and Racism, for example. Ones who break the ridiculous stereo-type that a leader can only be male, perhaps. If you're going to ask a question like this then narrow down the criteria as there are hundreds of movies out there where the woman is the story, especially if there is a good actress in the role.

This is a topic that does my head in as there have been strong female characters / leads / centric lead ( from all backgrounds ) in films and TV since forever.

I could go into a whinge fest but I'll need to buy a spare keyboard first before wearing this one out :P
Mac mini ( 2018 / 2020 ), 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5, 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, 1TB NVMe, eGPU Radeon Pro 580 8 GB, LG Ultragear 27GL83A-B 27 Inch
Commodore VIC-20, 1.1Mhz MOS 6502 CPU, 5KB RAM, VIC ( 6560 ) GPU

Until the next time...
