While we're on about graphics vs gameplay - let's talk about Thomas Was Alone.

1. Crap graphics.
2. Barely comprehensible but much-trumpeted-about "narrative".
3. Repetitive gameplay.
4. Smash hit.

Somebody explain.  Because I'm buggered if I understand how some people get the breaks.

Didn't play it, just watched the trailer which shows absolute minimalism in graphics but clean design. Professional music with professional narration that creates a dreamy like atmosphere. Kinda shows how much power good sound and music has in games. It can drive your imagination meanwhile graphics wise you might only need "clues"...The more detail you add on the graphics side the more you can go wrong with it also.

I think luck is hardly the only factor that makes Thomas Was Alone successful. It might have started as a joke, or went for full minimalism out of frustration of trying to create detailed, appealing to everybody characters...dunno. But I see why people want to at least download it and give it a go.
