Return to PB
« on: May 23, 2020, 02:11:05 PM »
I haven't done any programming in four months and am now ready to start a new project . I made myself a notebook full of stuff about programming in PB which is just as well as my memory is not that good . It's really just to jog my memory on how to do curtain things . I think 4 months off is maybe too long between projects but I think when I make a start I should be ok . The Ogre 3d renderer is really good to use and I like it very much. It seems like a gigantic hurdle to get going again when I consider all the work that goes into a pretty simple game like I produce . Anyway I've got to get my thinking cap on and make a move in the next few days . It seems that I've spent 2 years learning this stuff and now I'm out of ideas. Anyway have  an excellent day and happy coding . I think it's now time to build something that is really good rather than ok . Thanks for reading .

Well today is 27/12/2020 and I still have not produced any code in a long time . February was the last time . Gonna get a new computer in the new year and will make a start then . By then I would of had a years break . Really hoping I will be able to jump straight back into it and not forgotten that much. Just gonna wait for a good sale and see what I can get . Eyeing one up at the moment 639 quid . 8 Gb of ram for me to play with and a much faster processor . It's a Ryzen 5 3500u processor .
Should imagine it will support Vulkan .

Yes I think so . PB is really fast and compares to C++ in the speed stakes as far as I'm led to believe . The ogre graphics are very nice to work with . I'm still new to programming although  I've spent the last couple of years writing games , yes I've learnt quite a bit but still things I don't know much about .  Am thinking along the lines of GTA not the same but a simplified version with roads and trees and buildings . I kind of know how to do this in theory . Thinking of a new website as well for all my new games to come  as I'm hoping they will be way better than anything I've accomplished so far and I'm intending to reinvent myself and hopefully make some decent Games . Was watching a guy on you tube who has made it as an indie developer and was giving a talk on how he did it . Obviously I've got to raise the bar and produce something good then I've got to launch it on steam and give itch.io the bullet . He also says don't release any games for free . Am I right in thinking it's a hundred quid to release my games on steam ? This guy on one of his games sold 24000 copies on steam and earned $90,000 . Anyway first things first and that means write a good game . Sounds like a plan . onwards and upwards , I hope .

To be honest I think PB is excellent for games or anything really . A good multi purpose language. There is a learning curve but coming over from AGK was not too bad . To me they are a similar style of programming although different in a few ways . I've mostly been experimenting with PB but have one game on itch.io written with it . So I have a fair idea of what I'm doing .
Thanks for reading .

Wow, I remember your website. There are a lot of games. Yes, this one: https://pfaber11.itch.io

I think that your game development experience is enough for many kinds of game projects.

You want to develop a GTA type game? It will be a very ambitious project. Will it be a PureBasic game?

It seems that most forum members don't like to sell games. However, the story of this indie developer is very encouraging. I have confidence in you. :)

Yes I think PureBasic would be the right tool for the job . It's as capable as anything else I've tried . I'm not saying it'll be as good as GTA5 but I think if done correctly it could be a good game . Not sure how long it's gonna take weeks months a year maybe . I think I can create the city and that's what I'll be doing first , buildings roads etc . After that I'll cross each bridge when I come to it .. Loads of stuff to wrap my brain around . thanks for reading may the force be with you .

Thanks I was Adam I watched both of them . I'm taking all that on board . I know I've still got a lot to learn and I imagine in this game excuse the pun that you never stop learning . I do see the point though make something that is small and good rather than a huge project that is crap .
