I'm going to try my best at reimagining 3DzForMe's The Big Dark Adventure and I have a question: do I have to put the storyline of his game into mine, or can I come up with a different unrelated story? I've just finished coding most of the draw code to emulate the ZX Spectrum (palette, how it draws to the screen, etc.), and I want to make sure I understand the rules completely before I get knee deep in code and realize the game isn't submit-able.

Thanks in advance! This is the most fun I've had in a while with programming. It feels like the first time I ever coded anything and have it just work... it's odd, but nostalgic!  ;D

i'm fairly sure you can use your story premise/plot due to the competition being 'remake, reimaging, reboot, sequel'
an entirely different plot fits within the category rules.
It's a thing that doe's when it don't..

Thanks! :) I just didn't want to write a storyline and later scrap it. I appreciate the clarification.

Yep I agree, no point making a complete clone of the same story, so that would definitely be a sequel if you change the story.

ook, after thinking I was going to work on something else this weekend, the competition drew me in and after some test code I decided to go in a very different direction graphics-wise.

Same here, I've written a N64 screen filter just for this. I'm also planning on emulating the frame rate which had a tendency fluctuate between 30 to 15 FPS, but i'll be keeping this running at 30-ish or 20 locked.

Ginger Ninja in Nintendo 3D mode, yay! look forward to playing this. You've definitely got the N64 style down ;D

hopefully I do your game justice and not screw things up.

Great idea!

Not such a great idea, just improve on the system with a super smooth frame rate.

To true, technically I have, the game runs at a constant speed just a bit faster than native N64 could handle.
Game play is smooth for what it is, all seems to be working fine, just needing to get that 'feel' down.  ;)

Got my first system takeover completed - no opponents yet though...

Thanks Matty. It took a lot to get this far. I've got some ideas for expanding it, but the next task is to get some form of programmable AI. And make it simple to use...  :o

Oo, should be intriguing to see how this turns out. I thought Genus Prime was pretty cool as it was like Risk but in outer space :)

Moving on... I think I'm pretty set on what I'm going to do although I'm really unsure if I'll get enough free time :( - But, no harm in diving in and giving it a good go - I hope to start by the weekend and will be doing an improved sequel / reboot ;D
