Heh, assuming this is 2019 and 3d-shadows are in games for years that wasn't too fast :)

2D was always an after thought in Unity.

Have you even looked Unity since about version 3 or 4 (when your statement was probably at its closest to 'correct'?

Yes I know they've eventually started concentrating on it more, but how many years has it been out?  Obviously wasn't a priority then was it?

You can do it yourself with some interesting tricks but it's not something that happens automatically on a toggle switch.
