I actually hate video tutorials, not just with programming, even say, photoshop ones... All that stopping and starting, rewinding if you missed something... Just give me a lump of text that flows with the odd picture and I take to it far better then any video!

These tutorials might show you step by step what is happening or "to do" but they are often no "step by step" tutorials for you to follow but to learn from them.
And if they are step by step ones - then video allows to add audio to it and you see stuff like mouse movement (so you grasp in the very moment of action _where_ a certain submenu is to reach, where to click ...). It also allows to only stop a video (if needed) if there is something for you which you did not know before / did not know that it is to do now.
Eg. for Blender "YanSculpts" did some sculpting tutorials in the past - longer videos showing in realtime what he did. Newer ones - building up on the "basic ones" now skip through the creation. Showing only certain parts of the sculpting process - stuff which needs special care/attention. That way the videos are only <10 minutes long now.
As said in a different thread already I think for programming textual tutorials work better - with copy/paste-ability and so on.
Written tutorials are harder to publish:
- need a host next to youtube / vimeo / ...
- need to write texts (spelling errors?!)
- need to write html/formatting
- make pictures instead of blantly recording the screen (if you work clean you do not need to cut your videos)
bye
