MacOS Catalina 64bit apps ONLY!!!

So the GM version of MacOS Catalina is out with the public release due tomorrow.

As they are moving to 64bit only *sigh* I thought I'd check the state of my installed apps to see how much it's gonna cost me to buy newer versions of old software

Luckily I don't think it's too bad :

1.. ionCube PHP encoder
2.. TextMate
3.. TomTom Home ( probably a free update available )
4.. Unity Dashboard plugin?!?!? ( need to look into that more )

I think this time around I'll wait for a couple of updates of Catalina before updating as I'm well overdue to format and reload from fresh and that'll take a many many hours to get everything back up and running.

Time for another CX update with a 64bit launcher.

I think it's just stupid for Apple to remove 32bit support as there is really no reason to do so. Granted 64bit is the standard these days but there are many legacy apps that people still want to use but if they upgrade can no longer do so.

To be honest, this has been the writing on the wall for a long time with Apple, and I'm really surprised its took them this long to do it... Hopefully software devs foreseen what was happening and adjusted, and will offer free 64bit support for their wares (Obviously some will see this as an opportunity to make a quick buck)... Obviously its a knacker for the end user who relies on legacy code,  I remember when my version of Paintshop CS2 wouldnt work when I upgraded Windows, cannot remember which one now, must of been Vista, anyway, that cost me £250 on Amazon at the time I bought it, and CS3 was like a billion quid.... Adobe must of been over the moon!

It is what it is, but yeah, Apple, if it aint broke, then make them fix it anyway! :/

Yep, it's more likely that there is something else going on. Dropping 32bit is the first step the next will probably be a new cpu architecture. sort of like the move from G5 to intel, but in reverse - change the systems step by step then you can change the hardware without problems later...

I'm not upgrading for a while just to let things bed in, but hopefully I'm ready for the jump....

I'm not usually in favour of Apple making hardware or software obsolete at the drop of a hat, but 64-bit CPU's have been around a long time now so I welcome the update, even though it could cause problems for some regards legacy software.  Talking of compatability, they should have gone with Vulkan though (not Metal).

Just did the deed and upgraded to Catalina 

First report:
Everything went completely smoothy and very quickly. With all 64bit apps fully operational after upgrade including all dev systems.
32bit apps now have a cross through them do denote they are no longer supported.

So. It was painful for me at this end.
OS now going though the system and re-catalogue the system.
