QuoteFinally game itself is done bar a couple of bits to polish up.

I'm guessing that'll be the inclusion of a one winged mosquito struggling to evade as all he can do is fly in ever decreasing concentric circles (what other type is there......)

As Mrs Doyle of Father Ted would say - Go On, Go On, Go On.......

[pause]

Right so!....Go On, Go On, Go On.......

Be warned - horses head has been prepared  :o

[EDIT] Bloody hell Xerra, just seen the Video - you've knocked it out the park this time!

Good luck with this, Centipede/Millipede were a couple of my favourites.  They started as a basic shooter, but then ramped-up the intensity to fun levels.

Play it on level 3, mate. Hopefully that should give you the intensity you desire :)

As much as it's quite chilled at level 1, I just prefer getting murdered and shit flying everywhere on max difficulty. And I wrote the thing, haha.

Thanks for letting me know everything works so far, guys. Much appreciated.

Anyone had any problems at all yet who's not said anything?

Like maybe a full screen issue? Because I kind of picked up on this late last night :-(

And what do you think of the game? Like it? Hate it? I gotta know. I've compromised a bit at the end for how I originally envisaged the game but still felt it made the cut. Learned some new tricks too - always a bonus.

No problems running the game on my Core i7, Windows 10 laptop PC.  I can't see a way of getting the game into full screen display? That's not an issue for me by the way (the window is big enough), but you asked about possible full screen issues.

QuoteAnd what do you think of the game? Like it? Hate it?

I, for one, certainly don't hate it. I reached a score of 69124 on Level 1 (and about 20000 on Level 3, I think). Yeah it's a fun game, but I found that I could play it pretty much on 'auto pilot' (especially on Level 1) -- just stay roughly in the centre, keep Space pressed down, and be ready to dodge that pesky swooping ladybird -- speaking of which...

The baddy-player collision detection for the swooping ladybird might need some tuning because I'm convinced it kills you without actually touching you, leading me to protest "That f****** thing didn't touch me!"  Does anyone else agree with me on this?

Is the tortoise indestructible? Does it basically function as a projectile blocker?

Btw, those excessively squashed planets did raise a small smile, admittedly.  :D

(Mind you, having said that, there's actually a dwarf planet in our Solar System that's shaped like an egg - look up Haumea)

The itch.io page does answer all of these issues in the game description but I had a feeling I should have possibly thrown in some kind of instruction page in the game as well.

Full screen is toggleable by pressing Numpad-Zero. I did a hack on that last thing before submission because I had problems with it previously and removed it from the menu then got it working again. Needless to say I found a fault with it again after submission <sigh>. Also found the Mac version key to do it no longer works even though I modified it with the same code I used in the windows build. Bug fix is going to be needed for this one.

The Tortoise is a little bonus system in the game. Each hit it swaps direction and goes a little faster but you get more points each time you hit it. So get as many shots in on the thing as you can before it goes off screen.

The Ladybird - or HornBug, as I started calling it, does indeed kill you just by proximity to an extent. I made it a bit tighter but wanted it to be more of a threat for when people got good enough at the game to be able to handle most of the rest. The idea was that you had to decide if you needed to leave it so that it removed excess mushrooms, or you took your chances and got 10 shots on the beast while it's moving upwards.

Glad you liked it otherwise, though :)

a good trick with collision is the following:
if they can hit you then reduce the collision size - this give you a better chance
if they are bullets to hit them - increase the collision size  - so it feels like you have a better chance of hitting them

:)

Point noted. What's your feeling? Reckon it's a bit too mean as it stands? I won't alter it for competition entry, as it wouldn't be a bug fix, but it's a pretty easy fix to adjust the area if I do an update after competition is over.

Currently working on a few little fixes that I hope to have done by Sunday for an update on my game.

I've fixed an issue where there was a really stupidly rare chance a problem could occur with the grid spawning. I only caught this by chance.

Turns out I had a broken area on the origin point of the HornBug for setting the collision area so setting that correctly does make it a lot more forgiving in its proximity to the player. As this is how it should have been originally I'm classing this as a bug fix but I'm happy to revert it back (just a sprite area setting) if it's not considered one. Please let me know if this is the consensus.

The code to switch to full screen was supposed to be numberpad_0. This didn't work due to an incorrect boolean so I have bugfixed but it's shown another issue where the player ship boundaries go outside of the window size dimensions which is bloody strange to say the least. I'm looking into fixing this and I do think it's classed as a bug as full screen was meant to be in the game (as shown on itch_io page) but I shall leave it if there's objections.

I don't think there's anything else wrong, or I'm not aware of it. I have to do some UAT testing for my real job on Sunday but I'm optimistic I can get this stuff sorted out as well. If there's anything anyone has noticed that I'm not aware of that's buggy in Creepy then please let me know ASAP so I can put it on the list.

Thanks guys.

I'm stopping my bug fixing at 10 tonight - I'll be play testing creepy crawlies + the other entrants releases to date just after then.

I was wondering if it just flipped direction - nice touch.  :)

I've been digging around for your updated file Xerra, couldn't find it on your itch.io page - said last thing was 5 days ago - then I read your first line - Doh! - not released the patch yet ;)
