Wahey, this can only mean that the official version isn't too far away. Cool that someones got it to work but sometimes being a lazy git with hobby stuff I'll wait for the simple install image :P

lol yes I can wait for the official install too.  But about time people woke-up to the fact the pi4 (unlike all other models will need a small fan) or the pi4 will lose a lot of it's performance gain as it overheats and so throttles back.  It's no big deal as we both got the tiny quiet fan shim, but I still see comments about performance.  My pi runs around 40 degrees constantly, where as without a fan it would get to 80 plus and so would throttle back it's clock speed until it cools.  With processing tasks like emulation you absolutely need cooling or you will not get the full speed of the pi4!

For the sake of a tiny quiet fan to keep performance up I thought it was a no brainer. Sure you can easily use it without a fan for less stressful tasks but emulation is CPU heavy so I don't want to sacrifice performance. Besides the fan shim is perfect as it's small, very very quiet and does a great job.

Precisely.  Some people are still not getting the fact the pi4 is 3 times faster than the pi3 and so generates more heat - which results in the CPU throttling back when under load.  But people are then complaining about performance!   :P

I agree the fan shim is superb.  It halves the temperature so keeps the pi4 running at full speed, is very quiet indeed and infact is so small it looks as if it was part of the original design!
