cPanel hosting increase - Surprise, we now want 300%+ more money from you!

So I've just found out that cPanel ( the web admin side this server uses ) was bought out by a company and naturally the new company has decided to increase prices - So looks like from next month I'll now have to pay three times as much for the cPanel license. What a bunch of money grabbing twats.

Don't worry though, things will stay the same here and there won't be any money begging posts or adverts appearing on these forums *ever*. I just hate it when companies sell out and prices are shoved up so much for no real reason at all.

Doesn't surprise me in this day and age... Whatever company, in whatever industry, they've decided the customer is just there to be milked for all they are worth, never content with just selling something and be done, nah, they want to latch themselves on, and just bleed you dry like the leeches they are!

I myself do not use such a system on my server. Subdomain/vhosts with apache's site-configs file, emails via postfix admin and dovecoat/postfix configs via files. Letsencrypt is once installed and configured for a the domains and run via cert-bot. MySQL configured once and DBs added via MySQL Workbench.
Else nothing is run to configure I think.
I do not install such a tool because:
- decreses security
- wants to handle all my customized stuff - what happens if they do not offer a certain option (graylisting of mails in the imap server, custom SSL stuff, rbbl's, ...)
- you learn nothing when using it ;-)

But next time I will most probably use one of these panels as they save a lot of time - IF they work as intended and are able to do what you want.

Because I'm very familiar with it, it works, it's constantly updated, does everything I need without having to fight with it and it's never let me down

Let's wait how many months you have to pay until you recognize a change (positive or negative).
FOSS has a reason and the more use it the better they become.

I've tried various free web admin panels over the years and every single time there has been something that it can't do and or other issues. I don't have the time to mess around for ever in a day with configuration of things either and as cPanel has always worked, never broken a website or borked the server ( 10+ years of using it ) then unless it becomes silly money then I'll continue to use it

They appear to have offices around the world. I see they also bought Plesk, another popular paid for web admin panel.

Also as far as I can gather they just scoop up businesses and increase prices, kinda like patent trolls ( so someone else said and not me )
