Oculus Quest
« on: May 05, 2019, 11:39:17 PM »
Just pre-ordered an Oculus Quest, it fell into my basket by pure accident, honest! ;D

I love my Oculus Go and can't wait to get hold of this little beauty. Some really fantastic launch titles and it's great to see a launch done right with plenty of content ready to go on day one. 50+ titles apparently.

Sure you're still going to have the purists that prefer to tether their VR headset to a powerful gaming PC for better visuals but that's what grabbed me with the Go, it doesn't need that. It's totally portable, no wires, no beefy PC required, just shove it on and play anywhere.

Now with the Quest we have the same easiness of the Go but able to deliver a full on VR experience. Anyone else thinking of grabbing one?

Until the next time...

I am sooo tempted! The review from the Tested guys has nearly pushed me over:

A quote from one of the Tested guys:

the PC ports we saw were very very close to their PC equivalents

@Qube - which size Quest did you pre-order? I'm a bit disappointed they didn't include a SD slot.

It's true, my mouse slipped, I tried to correct but clicked "buy" by accident and then during the madness I somehow managed to click "check out" :)) ( very believable story )

After doing a bit of research I went for the 64GB version. I figured worst case scenario in that assuming there's only 40GB storage left after the OS and every game is 2GB in size then that still means 20 games installed and good to go. In reality many games won't be 2GB+ so the 64GB version will be just fine for me.

I watch 3D movies via my Go and spool them via SkyBox so I don't need to store those on the device ( yes I own the BluRay 3D before I hear streaks of piracy ). If I were in the camp of storing a lot of media on the device then I would of gone for the 128GB version but as it'll be just for storing games and spooling media then the 64GB version is easily enough.

Perhaps they'll finally allow USB storage on the Quest. It was rumoured to be allowed on the Go but never came so lets hope it does on the Quest.
Until the next time...

left after the OS

I was looking for something like that, have you found any site which states the useble size?

Just saw this, I must have missed it when I first looked:
Quote
2 Available storage less than shown due to existing software. Oculus Quest will require certain updates to be installed from time to time, including prior to first use.

Some of the Oculus Quest game sizes:

* Journey of the Gods: 900MB
* Space Pirate Trainer: 500MB
* Face Your Fears 2: 2GB
* Ballista: 2GB

If we increase the games to 4GB, the 64GB version should hold 16 games... and of course the 128GB 32 games - of course if the full amount is available.

I'm playing RE 7 on the PSVR and whilst it is good... a full wireless version would be great!

You do not have to avoid the word "porn" - thought it's what VR was invented for?

Seriously: is it really that "nice" to see movies through such a vr-glass-setup? I mean, compared to simple 3D on a big TV?

bye

When it's VR like a holodeck then I'll be more interested :P

I really like it as you're sat in a virtual cinema ( or a different theme ) and the screen is HUGE!!. It'll look even better on the Quest with it's OLED 1440×1600 per eye display ;D

That does look really good.  Cool the way you can map the area of your 'holodeck' too.   8)

I watched the whole video earlier and was very impressed how well the Quest version compares to the PC / VR version. Let's not forget we're comparing a £400 standalone headset compared to a £1000+ PC + £500+ VR headset. I think it's amazing what the Quest is pushing out for the 1st gen releases.

Having looked at the Quest video's for Super Hot I can't wait for the door to knock on May 21st ;D - Also as a big fan of Drop Dead I'm interested to see what they are doing with Drop Dead Dual Strike.

Overall I think the Quest is going to be great fun and a great step into decent VR without a crazy price tag attached.
Until the next time...

I agree! Being cable free is going to be a game changer. It just a little part of me wishing they used a more powerful mobile CPU/GPU but of course that would bump up the price.

I would never be interested in a cable system.

Stress testing the controller tracking:

Looks pretty good...

So in the future versions they just need to add tracking cameras to the controllers so that occlusion doesnt happen.
