Hi folks,

I've done my best to capture all the entrants for the latest competition from the forum, and shoehorned them into a little webpage:

http://www.gpsrunner.co.uk/8bitfun.html

There is 24 hours of the competition bug fix time left, please feel free to provide feedback to the coders who have dusted of their coding skills on this thread. (well.... I tried my best to get the old noggin going)

Some outstanding quality within these entrants - well done everyone who has pulled out the stops to get their submissions in on time :D

Nicely done! I did have some trouble finding all the games and getting an overview. My plan is to try more of them tomorrow. :)

For my game, Tiny Tales, perhaps you can link to the showcase thread instead: https://www.syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,5430.0.html
There's more info there. :)

Hadn't got to look at BDA until today but glad I have. It's going to need another opinion but I'm definitely having some issues. I captured a couple of screenshots but some problems I couldn't catch as they came and went before I could use Snagit to screen grab them.

Have look at the pictures attached. First one is just after the game starts. Initially the game loads up with some kind of spectrum loading screen and the black/yellow loading bars in the border. They are not moving randomly but are just static. Not sure that's what you intended or it's meant to be cycling. Also the screen is blacking out for a few seconds at a time and then coming back while this sequence is running. Not sure if a Spectrum actually hid the screen for a bit while loading like the C64 did but I don't think that actually happened.

When this sequence had finished there was a picture that came up briefly but then quickly moved up the screen and disappeared forever and i was left with the text shown in first picture.

Input line is at top of screen - again, not sure if you meant that or not? It does seem off if you placed it there as it's kinda hard on the eyes reading descriptive text down and then looking up again at the input line repeatedly.

Typing text was flickery. Something to do with how things are drawn to the screen - perhaps you're constantly redrawing the text as input from the keyboard is received.

The second picture shows after typing help. Layout doesn't look right so something odd is happening here too.

I'm assuming the graphics are also meant to be always on display when you're in a room but then maybe it's like the Hobbit where they only showed the first time you went into a room and then you actually had to look again to see that rooms picture afterwards?

I've tried rescaling window size and the like but that just makes the font bigger rather than allowing more space for anything else on screen to appear again.

So, as I said, another person who's using a proper windows machine needs to take a look in case it's just me using parallels that's the issue. It shouldn't be but then we've already seen that there may be an issue with Jack Deadly that only I'm experiencing because I do this.

I think you're using Blitz3D if I'm remembering correctly. I've probably got the archive of that so could try and compile it myself, if you're not worried about sharing your source code? If you want me to do this then let me know asap so I can get it done and give you a copy to upload onto the entry page before tonights deadline. I'm sure there's no rule against me just giving you another build option so the Mac guys can test it as well.

Crap, blitz3d is windows only, right? That would put a spanner in the works.

Yeah, that's where I'd some text appearing, and where my title screen is hiding, regretably, I've a full on day with the family (sounds bad) but addressing that is my number 1 priority.

Yeah, the Hobbit went for scrolling the pictures up, I've went for a bit more narrative than the Hobbit. I did have the pics scrolling up slower, but whilst debugging it was eating into my Dev time..   need to reset the sped up var.

That's very generous, thank you, however I'm 50 miles away from home and need to go out again, wouldn't mind sharing the source, messy as it is, but I don't think I can get it to you in time. Thanks again.

Good point, might be easy to move it to bottom, again time is not on my side today
