Not to pollute Adam's work-log thread, but his game really brought back memories of the classic isometric games of the 8-bit machines.

This YouTube clips has a tonne of them I totally forgot about:

I've never ever done an isometric game so it'd be a "Gulp" moment for me too. I assume sorting the tiles is just a Y axis thing to render in order?. If we do go for this then definitely no cheating by going 3D with an ortho camera :P - Plus I'd have to think of some sneaky things so you rabble couldn't start early.

But for now I'm knee deep in the current comp so not even gonna think about it as I have glorious ZX Spectrum pixels to create ;D

It did for gaming in those days but 256x192 is just a small sprite and not a full gaming resolution these days :P

Nah, wouldn't add in a retro element to such thing.

i'm game ... Iv'e had an ISO Rpg adventure itch I've been meaning to scratch for sometime now.
granted if It doesn't  need to be retro themed that's cool, though if 2d is required i'm still in.

Lol, a 1st ever where there seems to be consensus during a comp as to the next comps theme :P - Of course there may be some requirement as to stop early starters so please don't get coding now :)

Looks cool, did you finish it?. I can see the ISO inspired look but it does have perspective. Instant ban! :))

Not sure of the next comps details but I think an ISO comp is open enough to allow a whole shed load of ideas without being restrictive. I'll give it some good thought after then end of the current comp ;D

Qube-y you sneaky ;)
Isometric is a perspective :P but I get what ya mean. :)
The camera lowers while moving and returns to the top down ISO view while stationary.

I never got to finish this and only have the compiled exe ... source be damned.
But I would remake it given a slew of alterations should I re-roll with the idea again.

But but but true isometric in games do not have depth perspective :P - Big up for supporting gingers in games ;D

You lost the source for the game?, that's a shame :(

true ... if we want to roll science-e style we can use "oblique non parallel Z point perspective ... in 3d" ;D
