What do you need, generic structure, whole design, some gfx, ... ? Feel free to open up a new thread for this, maybe others have ideas for this too.
Someone(s) would ideally create static pages of the game comps, entries, winners, etc. This would be like a mini website which gets updated during and after each game comp.  Not sure if it'd benefit anyone but if you think it'd be of use.

Until the next time.

I don't think there's much of a problem with lack of competition entries when there's a subject that people can relate to. Look how many entries there were for A-maze-ing , after all. Adventure was possibly a bit too much work for a short time for people - not to mention the subject wasn't something that popular anyway.

Put out a competition for "Make the best shoot-em-up in Eight weeks" and I bet everyone would be back at it in a heartbeat :)

Yeah that would be a fun one.

I think the last comp's lack of submissions had more to do with timing rather than interest.  I know I had a nice idea for a game, but between work, prepping for the holidays, and being sick, there wasn't much time left for coding.  What little time I had was spent on more important things.  When I finally did have time to work on something, there wasn't enough time left before the deadline, so I ended up doing a little Christmas snowflake demo in AGK instead.

Maybe from Oct-Dec we should have more light themes (come up with a cool holiday demo or something like that), and the rest of the year we can have more ambitious projects.

It's also pretty quiet here on SB at the moment ( as is on other boards too ), so perhaps leave the comps for now until activity picks up and general interest is there.

Actually, very easy.

I guess that our members will be very interesting in a programming competition about retro games!

Is anyone up for another comp? Yes, depending on what it is!

If you don't think we are ready to go for another one yet (but you know what you plan), consider giving us longer to work on it? Then those who want to can get stuck in, and those who will leave it to the last minute have a bit longer to put it off!

I wondered if there would be any interest in a version of "Core War"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_War

There could be a two-part competition, one to write the program to run it (effectively a redcode interpreter) and display what was happening, and the other to write the "warriors" that compete within it. In a preliminary stage people could specify alterations to the existing redcode (i.e language extensions), and/or conditions for the program: for example, that it must be able to handle multiple warriors, or must provide a certain size of "environment".

Best wishes,

D

I want to point out an extremely important thing: Theme Voting

Theme voting is really essential. Theme voting is common in famous competitions. For example:

Theme voting is fine, but no discussion!  Because discussions go on forever here!!

Amen to that!. We could have 3 pages full on the best shade of black if given the chance :P ( don't start )

But I did come up with a theme and plan for the next comp which should be fun, allow anyone to enter and hopefully get more than 3 entries :(. Also the voting will be completely different too for the comp. Hopefully will post details tonight or tomorrow.

Actually, quite simple. Only allow five days of discussing the themes by members.

Actually, a very good solution is more than 1 theme. You decide 3 very attractive themes for the next competition. Each entrant is allowed to choose one of these 3 themes to develop the entry in the next competition.

Steve Elliott

lol 5 days of discussion would result in pages and pages of discussion.  You obviously haven't been here long.

This has already been done a couple of competitions back.

Just let the boss make the call - save a load of debating different ideas. I'm the worst for contributing to those discussions :-)
