Lol, I wouldn't joke about that. Unbelievably in certain parts of the UK they don't put up Christmas decorations in the towns anymore in case it offends some people :o

Hmm that sounds like Daily Mail nonsense to me.  It's like Winter Wonderland in Cardiff.

personally i am annoyed by the religious bs attached to "christ-mas", in France we say "no-el" which means something like "no sun" or "new sun", so it is quite neutral (even if christians have hijacked it), and i like nice lights on trees and buildings, it is just to celebrate the end of a solar year (in the north hemisphere) 8)

what would be weird, and i am sure this is the case, is to celebrate "christ-mas" or "no-el" in the south hemisphere, because for them it is the peak (half) of the solar year. but i bet that they do that in australia ;)

There is a lot of fake stories but it has happened along with rebranding to avoid the word "Christmas" and also happens disguised as health and safety.

Strange thing is that if you ask anyone from any walk of life they don't want to stop or change anything regarding a local towns Christmas tradition, it's just a few silly councils have nothing better to do than dream up silly stuff. On top of that you have the gutter press that just shovel out fake stories and say "according to a source".

Erm, that's what it's supposed to be about :P although it's totally hijacked by retail wanting you to spend as much money as possible. Come Christmas Eve then the stores take down all the decorations and advertising wishing you a great Christmas and shove up sale signs instead.

I think it is derived from the Latin/Early French for "natal", referring to the birth of Christ.... So maybe not so neutral after all?

:-)

actually, in France, "Noël" is apparently derived from a celtic word/formula "Noïo Hel" which either means "no sun" or "new sun", however, as you may know, catholics have converted many people by merging their hebrew bs with the local bs, and that's why the wording and tradition is slightly different depending on the region of the world.

(if you are a genuine believer in hebrew stories (oups i mean christian stories :P), and you have ancestors in the uk, take a look at the root meaning of the days of the week (in english), not at all related to hebrew stuff.)

but anyway, happy end of solar year and start of new solar year, for those in the north hemisphere.  ;D

Only on here would a thread start with "Will we get xmas lights on this site.I do miss them from BB site." and derail into wonderland :P

So... This Brexit thing ;D

Actually, that's not what happens here. Soon as Xmas eve rolls around they take down the Xmas stuff and start putting out the bloody Easter eggs .....

I hate that too. If someone says that to me they always get a big fat "MERRY CHRISTMAS" back. If I get "Have a cool yule", well that usually results in a slap! :P
