I've decided to go more retro than every before for my entry to the Maze Compo... by using the GameBoy colour palette and resolution (160x144).
Currently creating the graphics for the main character: The Knight

Looks nice.
Did you paint every animationframe by hand?

Yeah, I use PyxelEdit to create the images and animation.

"Finished":
https://therevillsgames.itch.io/a-knights-maze
Ran out of time and patience with Godot... some things I really like (the animation player and animated sprites) but I felt like I was hacking with the scripts and scenes!
Also tried to change the game play from action to a roguelike-like type of game, but didnt work that well
You are the Knight and you are stuck in the Maze!
Find the door to go deeper into the Maze!
Controls:
Cursor Keys/D-Pad: Move
Space/Button A: Attack
Enter/Start: Play (on Menu)
Select/Space; Toggle Fullscreen (on Menu)
Also the Godot HTML (WASM) seems buggy as the controls do not work correctly:

Nice GameBoy colour palette, resolution graphics and animation. It could be good when it's finished

Yes - think it could become a nice game but for now - only (as you stated on your own) a protoype.
As you provided only a Windows version I used my "Maze Raider.Linux.x86_64" and renamed it to "AKM.x86_64", voila, Linux version ready :-) (the ".exe" are only runtimes ... nothing indivdual except maybe an icon + app details).
bye
