With Nintendo, Sony bringing on classic editions of their consoles I thought it might be high time to start an annual tradition of rebooting games that I loved as kid growing up being remade,  whether you want ot call them reboots, remastered, or whatever term you want to dream up.

I owned many computer systems during my lifetime starting with :

Zx81
Commodore 64 and 128
Tandy 1000 TL
and currently 2 HP Windows 8.1 Streamline and 1 HP Windows XP Streamline

and those are ONLY the desktop computers.

OK. My list of games I would like to see remade

1.  3D Monster maze  !    A game I first played on the ZX81.   You are in a maze being chased by a Tyrannosaur Rex.  I'm working on this myself using the Unity 3D game engine.

2.  Cyberworld           !    A game from my Commodore 64 collection.  It combined  a Space Invaders, Star Trek (the university edition) and a 3D maze game.

3.  Space Invaders     !    I didn't own this game on any of my computer systems, but for my Atari 2600 console.

4.  Radar Rat Race     !    Another C64 game

5.  GORF                   !   A sort of Space Invaders game, but it contained other game types as well

6.  STAR TREK           !   The university edition.  This game was released for every system back in the day. I know I owned a copy for my C64, my brother had one
for his TI 994a.  If I remember correctly, even Apple and Atari had one for their systems.

7.  Perfect Dark         !   I finally got this game last year in a collection for my XBOX ONE.

8.  Syphon Filter        !   I missed out on this one, as I never owned a Sony system until the PS4 came out.  I do have a PSP, and DARK MIRROR and LOGAN"S
SHADOW is where I met Gabe Logan.

9.  Zone Ranger         !   A c64 space shooter

10.  Eye of the Beholder   !    Since I am into RPG's   a game i bought for my  Tandy 1000 TL.  While other RPG games were turn based, this was one of the first that
was real time and in 3D.

That's my list for this Year.  I have hundreds more, but I'll get them in October next year.  I'm waiting to hear your Top 10 list of games you like to see rebooted, remastered, ?, ?.

See ya!
Prepare to be assimilated !  Resistance is futile!

Wow a blast from the past, good luck.  A game with real suspense.

There are loads of classic games I'd love to see a modern take on. By modern I mean keeping the exact same gameplay and just updating the graphics for modern resolutions ( no fancy pants 3D uber versions that neglect gameplay ).

Bruce Lee, Ghostbusters, IK+,  Another World, Theme Park, Syndicate... To name but a very few.
Mac Studio M1 Max ( 10 core CPU - 24 core GPU ), 32GB LPDDR5, 512GB SSD,
Beelink SER7 Mini Gaming PC, Ryzen 7 7840HS 8-Core 16-Thread 5.1GHz Processor, 32G DDR5 RAM 1T PCIe 4.0 SSD
MSI MEG 342C 34" QD-OLED Monitor

Until the next time.

I'd like to see genres that seemed to have died off.

Would love to have a reboot of Bloodwych, ye old Dungeon Master style games.

The Settlers, based exactly on the mechanics of the very first game, HighRes MSDOS version.

Another would be Transport Tycoon Deluxe.

Honourable mentions would be Amiga's Moonstone.

4.  Radar Rat Race     !    Another C64 game

Just shoving my oar in to point out this was a Vic 20 game first of all. I believe it was originally another game which had a redressing to make it mice and cheese after the issues with Cosmic Cruncher pissing Atari off because it played too close to Pacman.

I had a list of 8 maze-type games that I was considering using for inspiration for the current Syntax bomb game coding competition and this one was on it because I also loved playing it as a kid.

So you've possibly never been here before then, Qube?

Go to the remakes link - these guys did a modern Bruce Lee around 10 years ago. Very good it is, too. Few other great remakes there as well, if you're feeling nostalgic.

I've seen that Bruce Lee remake years ago but I didn't like the graphics. Nice remake though but personally I don't like how it looks.

@xerra

I didn't own a VIC-20 so I was unaware of that piece of information.  And yes you're correct.  Rally-X was the game that inspired it.  It was a car race game. I never could figure out what the rat released to scare off its chasers, but in the car version, it was smoke.

I think in the game the manual says it's fairy dust or something.. Haven't read the box in probably 35 years.

I'm going to stick my neck out and suggest something downright outlandish...

I think space invaders has already been remade. And I wouldn't be surprised if all the games on your list have been remade. Could use this thread to show examples of remakes of said games.

For me, with emulators being so good these days you might as well play the original games.

UNLESS there is a change in gameplay and graphics.

Games from back in the day like Chuckie Egg and Manic Miner can't really be bettered, except in graphics -so I wouldn't re-make them.  Other games you could mix-up the gameplay and add other elements to turn them into something more interesting.

Yes Mr. Meems how can I argue with you when I have a copy of Space Invaders Extreme for my PSP, and I heard of Space Invaders Infinity Gene for the XBox 360. One might point out that games like Galaga and Galaxian are "unofficial" sequels to the Space Invaders genre.

But like the movies Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Godzilla, there is something appealing about remaking Space Invaders every few years!

Hi bsisko,
tbf space invader remakes are easy to make and often result in a good game.
