In the 90's:

Speccy / 64 - typically 5 to 25 minutes of loading time - would it work?

In the 00's:

Amiga - At worst 5 to 6 disks worth of loading, reliable generally though....
Xbox - Pretty fast / reliable
PS2 - Pretty fast / reliable

In the 10's:

XBox360 - Still reliable and generally quick to load

XBoxOne - Turn it on - oh it needs a system update - there goes 10-15 mins
Post that - lets try a multiplayer - Gears of war 4 - oh, only 300 GB of space - need to re-install it.
Oh well, we'll have a nice old game of Worms - error code - for bloody worms!  :o

Console turned of and relax watching the remains of Rogue One. Merry Christmas  :D

Next decade is going to be VR and such technologies with total immersion as the goal. Can't wait.
A cure for cancer would be nice also.
Merry Christmas all :)

This seems nice --> 8 cores, 16 gb, raytracing, minecraft!

Easy, tiger. Dates are a bit confused here. In the 90's it was all about Playstation and PC's. The Amiga survived until around 96 or so only really for the hardcore enthusiasts. Its hey-day was really the late 80's and early 90's until Commodore went pop.

Spectrum/C64 were true 80's computers as well. By 1990 you didn't have that many people using them on a regular basis when they had Amiga's and Atari ST's to tinker with.

Seems like my base reference point was a decade too late!

I think I had an Atari520 ste in 92 then in 94 I got hold of an Amiga just as you say they went pop. Preferred the Atari . Got a 486 running windows 95 a couple of years later then a Pentium 200 then a Pentium 3 1200 etc.  The Pentium 200 had 32 mb of ram and a 1 gig hard drive. How things have changed . Don't think I'll be  getting the new C64 . I'm hoping virtual reality will go mainstream within the next 5 years and I'll then be able to afford to get on that band wagon. Guess that's where it's going next . Have a nice evening.
HP 15s i3 1.2 upto 3.4 ghz 128 gb ssd 16 gb ram 15.6 inch screen. Windows 11 home edition .  2Tb external hard drive dedicated to Linux Mint .

Yeah, I won't be getting a new C64, after all - still got my 1200 in the trailer (or...one of them!) - I think Blitz Basic running 1200 x 512 pixels with my own coding shenanigans seen me holding of until about 98/99 when I got my first PC with Win98SE.

And .... as a result of my initially vain attempts at getting Worms to run (solved by paying a quid for a XBoxLive Gold account for 3 months) - I rediscovered WinUAE in all its wonderous Glory:
