I've not yet decided the category, but I have decided on a 16bit look, so here is the current palette being worked on:

And Here's a shot of the concept being tested. Not there are no graphics - I am going for gameplay first then graphics second  :o

current resolution being worked with is widescreen 256x160

I really liked the first Syntax Bomb so I'm looking forward to trying this one out. Don't make it too hard though, please. I suck at platform games :-(

yep. if SyntaxBomb was more an 8bit retro - this will be more 16bit.

The essence will be the same: guide Syntax(Bob) with the help of his bombs, avoiding dangers and finding new friends...

Hi,

SyntaxBomb1 is a game written in Monkey2. Therefore, I think that SyntaxBomb2 is also a Monkey2 game.

oh...I have a question. Is the gameplay of SyntaxBomb2 = SyntaxBomb1? Is the design of the levels of these two games the only difference between these two games. Thanks.

iWasAdam

Yep it's a fork of monkey2 called mx2. it's been forked as there is soo much I needed to change under the hood to make it all work correctly.

So. it's now built with MX2

No. It's a completely new game - being written from scratch. also the gameplay of SyntaxBomb2 will be different. there will be bombs and monsters but levels are now multiscreen and you have a toy to play with - I'm not letting that one out yet.  :P

You can see there is a new power bar at the top - wonder what that might be for?

Hi,

"levels are now multiscreen",.....Good! Judges will be amazed by this idea. Many fans of SyntaxBomb1 may also be suprised by this change.

Yes, there is a power bar at the top of the screen. But what is the purpose of this bar? Can you disclose its purpose? Thanks! I want to know. The fans of SyntaxBomb1 also want to know.....Sure.

Sounds good.

I'm curious to know what the strategy angle will be?

I'm betting there won't be one. Adam said he's not decided on a category yet so I'm betting he'll get further into the game and then mould it towards whichever one works best. I reckon he's found a way to generate dynamic maps so he can make it an endless upward scrolling platform game to use Arcade/Open world :)

mmm, looks like interest is building - thats certainly a good sign :)

As Xerra said -I haven't quite decided the category yet. My key aim is to get the mechanics and feel completely right. SyntaxBomb1 had a certain feel to it and this must be retained (so it feels the same) but different as it's a new game.

There will be a more 'puzzle'/'strategy' element to this one, as well as possible endless elements. So...

But it must play really well - As said "its all about the gameplay' this time around. and some new tricks too.

I've just been putting some of the new Syntax(Bob) graphics in - and it does make me smile. Bob's come of 16bit age

Put on hald (for the moment) as it doesn't fit into the categories well enough

Xerra

Oh, I see. Ignore my comment in your other worklog then. You've changed the game you're working on.
