QuoteI could go for some snow
There will be snow on the homepage (only the homepage) for a few days over Christmas :)

Quoteas a hardcore bomber, i demand snow on syntaxbomb logo reflection.. :)
I tried it when originally doing the snowed up logo. It just looked way too much :(

QuoteActually I think it would look better without the reflection.
More than likely it would. When the snow thaws after Christmas I'll change it and see how it looks.

Without the reflection it would look too cartoonish, too simple imho.

Nice!

I think the lights are too slow now  :P

Nice lights ! well done :)
Can you briefly explain how you created this animated gif ?

I suppose that you have a layer with all lights off
And you have several layers with some glows visible and you create your animated gif using this ?

Thanks,

Qube

You can please some of the people all the time and all of the.... You get the idea :P

That would be the usual way of doing it. It's easy in Photoshop to create animated gifs. I'm sure iWasAdam will confirm his method :)

Maybe you should add a lighting-bulbanimation-creator script and everyone could adjust values in its profile to generate the lamps he wants - including different colors!

Seriously: I even barely recognize the lamps anymore. I am here to read content, so my eyes focus the areas I am interested in: latest posts on the portal page, new post content in the threads I am reading. Only in this reply form-view I see the lamps as there is no need to "scroll down" first :-)

In essence yup. Here's the recipe...
1. Take the original 2 graphics
2. Make new size and replicate background and lights to fill
3. duplicate lights and darken the bulbs, while making the holders lighter, so both look sorta right
4. cut out each light into a new layer
5. add a glow to each lamp layer
6. create as many animation frames as wanted
7. adjust the timing for each frame
8. sit back with a large sherry (trifle?)

Lights look good, so authentic that in true christmas tree light fashion there are some bulbs not working :P
Every other 2nd blue bulb has blown out ;)

EDIT:- I just saw the original post and see that it's intentional... that'll teach me to read all posts first 8)

Lights go out and snow melts away tonight for another year. If you want one last ski jump off the logo or daydreaming while watching the lights flicker then this is your last chance until Dec 2018.
