I just thought I'd let people know that the Leadwerks 3D Engine is 80% off until 21 August.

For around £15, or £30 with the Professional add-on, that enables you to use C++ (rather than LUA).

...how LE holds water vs older hardware?? .. During time i used it (LE 2.x) it was not friendly vs. hardware considered old at that time...how is that look like today?

Steve Elliott

Apparently it will run on Intel integrated graphics, so a lot faster.

Steve Elliott

lol There's a link on the right there.  Not sure if that's for the LUA based one or not.

..it seems so..and yet, such hardware running Effects U4 demo without a hickup..

..so, hmm..

Well according to the Leadwerks developer Josh, Leadwerks is the best game engine ever on the market and nothing comes close to it  ::)

So 'someone' is telling 'porky pies' ;D

To be honest.. I wouldnt rate an engine where the developer has just discovered smart pointers, on top of which he is now going to use 'shared smart pointers' everywhere lol. Clearly he doesn't understand the purpose of smart pointers at all... cutting edge? meh  :P

..well...as a engine developer, probably he did/does some smart tricks to make his engine run way it does..to me thats fine..but i want to develop games and proper translation of such statement is, i want my game to run over, as much as possible platforms, in order to be able to access as much as possible customers...no more, no less..thats why this AGK thing, hit me at right spot..it does have enough features to make game which looks very pretty, not high end, but pretty, and it runs everywhere basically...thats(or similar product) something i think,  is worth to invest time with, for game developers who are after market..

Yue

It's on Leadwerks.

I'm not saying that the Leadwerks engine is bad. It's a game maker, and not much more. Oh yeah, it interfaces with Steam - 'flagship' engine for doing that  ::)

My point is that Josh promotes his 'game maker' as the best thing in world - ever. That's a BOLD statement when, let's be honest, it's *just* about up to par with Unity - I'd even say that Unity is better, it's easier to use and works across more platforms.

I wouldn't trust a developer that promotes himself so much as the 'I am, and I can do', then complains like a bitch that stuff is hard to do. He's even complained to the Newton physics developer that updates to Newton have broken his engine... bear in mind that MANY people use Newton and they haven't complained at all. Then he realises that he just a dinkle with a loud mouth a big head and not much between his ears when realises that the error is on his misunderstanding ( again, it's too hard  ::) ), and hasn't even got the common decency to give the guy an apology for his wrong accusations. Visit the Newton forums if you want to read the posts.

Take note that
His language syntax - ripped off from Blitz3D, claims as his own
His 'new revolutionary engine design' - designed by Intel, claims as his idea.
His editor - design is ripped off from Radiant - claimed as his own design.
His loyal followers comparing his 'new engine design' to the Naughty Dog engine. I mean realllyy?? come on... haha. The Naughty Dog engine is designed to run like an operating system, not a game engine. It's far superior even to how Leadwerks manages memory, let alone what it can produce and the platforms that it can produce them for!

But yeah the Leadwerks game maker can make games - it's just nowhere near as good as it claims to be - how can it be? he's one guy, possible another one or two employees, maybe more? He's claiming to make an engine that's far superior against other engines that have dozens of programmers that actually know what they are doing. Nothing more than a HUGE LOL haha.
