I think it's a great idea to give the Dr Who role to a female. Dr Who can be any species / sex so what's the big deal with seeing how it works out?
Personally I think a couple of good story lines and she.. will.. be.. awesome! - She's a great actress with great on screen presence. I'm hopeful and willing to give her a go.

Nah, it's like having a female Bond or Santa.
But if the writing is good, that would soften the blow.

Nowhere is it written that doctor should be male. But Bond is. Personally.. I think it's interesting. As Qube said, it all comes down to a story.

Yep story line/good writing - like I said too. Personally I felt Capaldi was let down most of the time in this regard.

I haven't seen the current season, but I've heard that it was a bit of a let down (Netflix doesn't have the newest episodes). This is also the reason why something new might be good.

Yeah, he could even be a Dalek. but it would sort of ruin the appeal/charm/atmosphere of the whole setting.

I thought the latest season was better than the previous one. I think in the beginning Peter Capaldi was seriously let down with naff scripts. It just a shame that after he decided to leave he was finally given some better material to work with in the latest season.

I think Dr Who has been invaded by social justice warriors several series ago and is probably going to lose viewership like what has happened with comic books.

Arabella Weir has already played the Doctor in a Big Finish Productions "what if" story. These are normally considered cannon - but obviously not a "what if".
The story "Exile" is set directly after "The War Games", Patrick Troughton's last adventure. It's like the "other history" bit of The Family of Blood with David Tennant were David imagines what his life would be like if he keep his human body and lived with Joan Redfern (Jessica Hynes )
In Exile Patricks Dr deliberately regenerates to avoid punishment (Which was forced regeneration?), Arabella basically then hides from the timelords.
I know that this is an audio drama - But it is as much Dr Who as the TV Series.
