So it's not just me.
Sad to see the forums finally go.

MikeHart

Wow. One day after the announcement. Shows the complete narzistic character of the man in charge of that board. What a dick move.

MikeHart

But no surprise. After calling the blitz crowd "code illiterates" he lost the last bit of respect I had for him.

Goodlookinguy

When did that happen? From what I've seen, lots of Blitz people were experienced programmers who knew how to get the job done to produce results. Which, in the end, despite any code quality issues, the point is making stuff. I learned a lot of what I know from these people. I went on to go much further and am disciplined in many different programming languages now, but a lot of it started around Blitz.

Also, skid appears to be the person in control of the BB forums. He's likely the one that removed the forum display page since a few others were attempting to download the forums with completely wrong tools.

Holy crap when did that happen?
Source please.

Woah what a move, one day after the announcement pulling the plug for a community which was active for over a decade. I have even just started with my emailing list but will mail all I got to move here.

Goodlookinguy

I have any public/regular account visible BB forums posts stored right now. I managed to finish them off a handful of hours ago, so don't fret Xaron. I just have to hurry up and get it all tucked away in the database correctly.

@Xaron
I just hope some poor soul didn't post after your last check.

Xaron

3 did but I did not write down their mail addresses because I have my list here at work and thought well I have time till end of the month. :(

;D

I am sure he will edit his post soon.

EDIT:_ Post #6672

@Xaron That I won't have sadly. Any threads made after the closing down thread were not recorded.

Looks like, this closure was indeed skids move.

I wont be closing bb.com as its its own thing now, with skidracer in charge for extra thrills and spills! In fact, the site's probably still only there 'coz of skid (it only costs me money) so please don't hassle him too much.

Yes, there's probably a certain 'anti-monkey' element there, but that's kind of natural because it's a blitz site and 'my language is better than your language' etc – and monkey is quite different from blitz! In fact, they represent 2 quite different aspects of programming, so I'm not that surprised that someone who digs blitz is not so keen on monkey.

I wouldn't worry about the effect this is having on mx2 though. I think anyone who was gonna do the blitz->monkey2 thing will have done so by now, and anyone left who is still grumpy about mx2 is by now just preaching to the choir.

Besides, IMO the future of monkey2 is really going to depend on whether or not we can make an impact on the *current* generation of indie game coders (and whatever blitz may be, current it is not), many of whom have c#/java etc backgrounds and I think will 'get' monkey2 a whole lot better.

Think I'll lock this too as it seems to be getting a little heated in places...

I'd say I am part of the current generation indie devs, and I use BMax. >:(
