Regardless of the above: this post is some kind of "spammed"  advertising and should be marked as such... "[ADVERTISEMENT]" or so.

But to make it a bit discussionworthy: Why do all these weapons always have to be that big? This is some kind of "Asian style" (very big swords) while nobody thinks of how heavy these swords should be - and looking at her body she does not look as if she likes 20kg weapons.

At least the armour is actually protective this time...

@Derron>>yes it is advertising, but we sometimes need "assets" to make games, so why not have a section to allow such posts ? (similar posts were allowed on the blitzbasic forum)

However, what i find weird, is that these meshes look exactly the same than what "3dfoin" use to make/sell (on the blitzbasic forum)

I have a horse slaying sword replica and I couldn't wield it until I started working out a lot. Now I can and it was only like 20lbs (9kg). It had a thin long blade. I can't even imagine what a blade like that would weigh, but it'd be more than 20kg.

Yeah , that sword is way out of proportion.

Don't get me wrong, the models look great, its just the size of that sword ruins it for me.

Impressive... All looks nicely done / animated but to critique I would lose the porn star sized sword and make it more average / realistic size.

I'm a little late to this; but I would like to add that I have a piece plated steel that's a little bigger than those swords, and that thing is near impossible to lift.
Not that there is anything wrong with oversized swords in games inherently.

@Derron: the sword size can be edited easily, if you can't do it within the engine I can help you doing that :D I'm sorry about posting the topic to other sites also but it's the only way for me to tell people that we're exist, with such a small shop we can't afford banner adds :p I hope you'll understand and support us. :D

@Matty: lol

@RemiD: thank you so much for the suupport RemiD, 3dfoin is a school project, now all the students are graduated the site is down, I gather some other artists to open Chamferbox :D

@Conjured Entertainment: me too I like the punk hair better :D thank you so much for your compliments :D we'll have a sowrd pack available soon with many sizes and types for you to choose :D

@Qube and Rootster: thanks for the nice comments, I'll forward it to the concept guy ^^

Hello everyone, we are summoning the annual Lucky Pack! XD

Lucky Pack contains all of our available assets:

Total: $179 but the lucky pack price is $29 only!!!

You saved: $150!!!

Which means it's likely 2.4 dollars for each of our high quality game-ready model.

This pack appears randomly once a year so you don't know when you can expect it. It can only be purchased 10 times, so only 10 persons can buy all of our high quality models with such an incredible price, after that, the pack will vanish. That's why we call it the Lucky Pack. ^^

Are you right on time or are you too late? You can try your fortune at:

Some closer look:

this explains that :)

A suggestion for you :
game developpers don't care about your tastes or obsessions, so maybe try to make less personalised characters / creatures, like what you did with your previous peasant / warrior packs.

If you want more interest in your meshes / textures, i suggest to create a basic human male female pack
and then many different faces, hairs, clothes, armors, weapons, which can be merged (already rigged and skinned) on those characters.
Then the game developpers could use what they want depending on their needs...

Also a normal details version and a low details version is appreciated.

(3dfoin had a great support, i recommend it)

About swords and their weight.

I'd personally pick a samurai sword over any type of sword; It's light, strong and the design is so ingenuous that when you hold it, it automatically forces you in the right position and feels you can do all the fancy moves they do in the movies instantly.  8)

@ scaling down the sword

Please try it on your own and give back your opinion of how it looks. To make it wearable for her you should scale it down to the length of a short sword - and I bet the handle will look odd afterwards.
Scaling might work here and there - but for "carefully designed stuff" it most often does not.

I understand that the "Asian way" of designing such stuff is "cute girls", "big weapons".
Aside of that you will have such feedback for all "comparable" beings... People do not know about fantasy creatures as they never have seen one in reality. But knowing how heavy a sword can be it makes it unbelievable to see such a <55kg woman wearing this stuff.

Perhaps the huge sword is made out of a very strong light weight sci-fi fantasy out of this world material..

You need "big" swords to gain mass - to gain "force"/"huge impact" because of the rotation energy laying in such a heavy-sword-swing. A light material would remove the energy and therefor the "impact". A long, thin sword would have the same impact as a "light big one" - with the benefit of being a long sword (sometimes you want a short sword ...for reasons).

Talking classical simple forged medieval swords indeed: mass makes for the brute force impact on iron/woud shielding. Just like a battle ax.

But ninja swords are just light weight, very sharp and pointy, hard and still flexible due to their manufacturing process. They cut and pierce really, really well through almost anything, but I have no idea what would happen when they hit an iron shield object. (haven't tried)  :D

I can imagine it penetrating if piercing shielding not being too thick, but more thick objects it probably wouldn't have any influence but leaving a dent. However there's of course the trade off: how heavy can your amour be?

My dad has one of these Japanese army 'ninja' swords and it's scarily easy to use. I wonder if the blade was this excessive, if I would still say the same. I probably would cut myself rather then an opponent. ;D

If I remember correctly the trade off is that you can't block without the risk of braking your sword.

I like how we've turned this in to a discussion about sword design. :P

I purchased a couple of images from 3dfoin a while ago, great quality, glad to see they're still doing the rounds even though the studies have finished. That is a sign of worthwhile studying  :)

These meshes are too high details anyway... The old ones were quite good (around 3000-5000 triangles)
but these have too many triangles to be usable in an indie / small game....

If you are an indie / lone dev, your best bet is to create games that most people can play, even on "low / medium end" computers... Now try to render a few of these meshes in your scene, and this will cause massive slowdowns on "low / medium end" computers...

Can't you load the high detail mesh in the 3d tool of your choice, add a decimate modifier until it fits the triangle count of your needs and export it back to obj/collada/... whatever you need?

Of course it would always be good to get these models in high poly and lowpoly (with baked details).

@Derron>>of course, you can decrease the number of triangles (reModel it), but then you will have to reUVmap it, reTexture it, reRigg it, reSkin it, reAnimate it. Easy and quick to say, but not to do...
Title: Re: [Asset Sale] Female Knight
Post by: Derron on February 25, 2018, 14:36:47
Decimate modifier on Blender should take care of uv setups (use "planar" and "delimit on UVs"). Am not sure about the rest, but as you wont have the rig, you will not come further there. When done straight in Blender the vertices would have certain weights for "bending" and they could get assigned to bones etc. Decimating then could use this information to try to maintain stuff.

Nonetheless it is never a better option than to just use a provides LowPoly variant. Have to say I only use 3D stuff to render things out, not using them in games or so. Would assume one uses BHV files to animate - even without one could copy animations from A to B, if the bone setup is the same. LowPoly would be just a matter of retopologizing the detailled mesh to a low poly one and then baking textures (diffuse, normals, maybe even cavity maps) from highres to low poly.
As said above, this would not be needed if already provided by the artist/vendor. So you are right there - except artist does not respond, you are willed to use the asset - and got plenty of time ;-)

All the automatic things like auto reduction of polys, auto uvmapping, auto assigning weights, are all crap from the tests i have done. (but i have not tested every tool) Or they may be usable if you go from a very high detail mesh to a medium detail mesh, but you can't create a good low polys using that.
