What Language are you using to create your games?

I am personally using AGK Studio right now and have tried a few different languages over the last few years or so. It has been 7 years since joining SyntaxBomb and I've come a long way since then. 7 years with one year off another year with PureBasic that's 5 years and half that time in-between projects or tinkering with other languages. So I think 2.5 years with AGK to get to the level I am at. So yeah 2 and a half years and I would not change anything about the way I have gone to learn programming, it's taken years but I needed to try different languages and AGK S is where I have landed.  I'm no expert by any means but I think I could make pretty much what I want now.

i always come back to 'blitzbasic' (blitz 3d 2d) because i really like the syntax which is like writing plain english.

if a language forces me to learn to write it with weird commands and a rigid style, it is a waste of time and mental energy imo.

I'm using mainly C# with Unity and Cerberus-X for 2D.

I've been using a few recently, from your original Blitz (Wibble), BMX-NG (Launchpad) and C++ (LUI)

All very mish mash really.

Thing is, when your using a handful at a time, it's easy to get lost in them, the amount of times I've, say, been working on Wibble, and ended up starting to write in BMX, then realising and I'm like "FFS man!!!", or, using the wrong comment character, stuff like that! :D

Give me a chance to wipe the sweat off of my forehead.

Did u say language or game engine?

Well if I were to tell u C++ (or to be precise a c-script derivative), Assembler, and Python (or a language based on Python, GDScript) you tell me what game engines I am using.  No fair looking at my past posts?
Prepare to be assimilated !  Resistance is futile!

Well I'm creating a language to create games lol. :))  I always loved the concept of languages like STOS on the Atari ST back in the day, that were far more than just another general purpose language. You had built-in functions for graphics and sound. The syntax sucked though, line numbers, seriously??

Even if nobody but me uses it, at least I can use something that *I* enjoy using and can start making some games again! I guess I'm too picky about syntax and features.

I'm still making games with Gamemaker, just like I was doing in 2016, when I first joined up with Syntax Bomb. I've had a look at some other stuff over the years but, for the games I still want to make, it's still perfect for what I'm doing. If you want to break it down into a coding language, rather than dev environment, then it's pretty much coding C++ with the syntax.

Speaking of games, I'm around 90% done with the latest one. Hoping to have it out there before Xmas so I can get my nephew testing/playing it when I go to visit family to drink all my sisters wine.

I only made one game last year. Looks like this year has ended up the same.

AGK Studio is still my favourite and been using it for years. Such a crying shame that it's not in active development anymore. I'm sure if TGC had a yearly perpetual license system then money for AGK would not be such an issue. Development costs and charging a small one off fee is stupid for long term continued development. Can't even say it was dropped for AGK3 :(

Still BlitzmaxNG for me, although I'm stuck without any free time recently so game development is more thinking about it than actually coding.

Several busy "work-life" projects are coming to an end soon, so I'll start to pick up where I left off in January I hope.

Pfaber11

yeah it is a massive shame AGK is not being actively developed but at the same time it is a finished language and still very useable. I think TGC still selling AGK S is encouraging and with it being open source as well it may be around for some years to come.

QuakeC for my current project. With extensions it feels oddly similar to working with Blitz3D or even Gamemaker

therevills

Mainly BlitzMax (OG), but playing around with LibGDX (Java), Love2D (Lua) and Defold (Lua), trying to decide which one to stick with.

I use a subset of C++ with U3D https://u3d.io/ which is based on Urho3D, works great on the Raspberry Pi 5 which
is why I'm currently using it.

Naughty Alien

PureBasic, C++ (Wicked Engine and  Leadwerks 5 after new year). I started using Urho3D some time back and it went down for some reason..I see that tboy mentioning, its back as U3D. Ill look in to that as well. Interesting..
